Good Morning Talawanda. Today is Thursday, April 29th, 2021.

Tickets for the May 7th Setting Stone Coffee House are on sale now! The Coffee House will be on Friday, May 7th in the courtyard outside the cafeteria, and feature performances from THS students! Tickets are limited, so pick one up today! Stop by Mr. Aerni’s room (320) to grab yours for $3. Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the gate for $5.

The 2021 Prom will be May 1 from 7:00-11:00 pm here at THS. Tickets are $20 and purchasing information will be sent to you via email. All current Juniors and Seniors, as well as the class of 2020, are invited to attend the prom. The prom theme is “City of Stars”. Please dress accordingly for the elements and a concrete dance floor. See Ms Mann if you have any questions! 

All boys interested in playing golf this summer or next fall, please plan to attend an informational meeting immediately after school today in Mr. Cawein’s room (Room 215).  Coach Gloeckner and Coach Cawein will discuss summer practice and playing opportunities as well as the fall golf season.

On behalf of Best Buddies and National Honor Society, Mrs. Sammons and Ms. Alfonsi would like to thank everyone who participated in Tuesday’s Friendship Walk.  A special thanks to Mr. Marston and the Steel Band, Mr. Zimmerman and the Digital Productions students, the Special Education Department, and Ms. Metzger and Mr. and Mrs. Ruther for their generous donations. We all had a great time!

Seniors, graduation is fast approaching! If you intend to participate in graduation please make sure you have ordered your Cap and Gown by May 1st. You can go to Jostens.com to place your order. Cap and Gown orders will be handed out to Face-to-Face students on May 7th, for Online Learners they will be available for pick up in the main office the week of May 10th from 7:30am to 3pm.

Now an update on baseball and softball followed by sports with Luke West Poley

The baseball team fell on the road to Elder on Tuesday night, last night they were scheduled for a doubleheader with Mount Healthy, Evan “Cheese” “The Fire Hose” Kennel pitched 2 no hit innings before the games were called off due to weather, the Brave are currently leading game 1 3-0 pryor to the bottom of the second.

The softball team dropped 2 games to Beavercreek on Tuesday, 11-8 and 12-2 were the scores they fall to 9-10 on the year and will continue on the road today at Oak Hills.

The tennis team defeated 7 Hills “B” two nights ago 3-2, their match last night at Hamilton was cancelled, they improve to 10-4 on the season and will play next on Monday at Mariemont.

And the lax bros claimed their SWOC championship last night with a dominating 18-2 victory over Edgewood, Brendan Bohon had 4 goals, and Nick Engelhard and Ben Howard added a hat trick each, the lacrosse team will head to La Salle on Monday.

Congratulations to Meghan Cromer today – In recognition of Meghan’s years of participation in dance with Fairfield Community Arts Center and her outreach efforts with them, the Mayor of Fairfield signed a proclamation to make today Meghan Cromer Day in Fairfield.  Congratulations Meghan!

Now for this weeks teacher feature followed by sports with Luke West Poley

A 5 run sixth inning propelled the baseball team to an 8-3 win last night over Edgewood, they improve to 10-7 on the year and 5-4 in the SWOC, they will head to Cincinnati tonight to play Elder.

The softball team dropped a 14-4 decision to Edgewood last night, they fall to 9-8 on the year and 3-6 in the SWOC, they have a chance to rebound tonight in doubleheader action at Beavercreek.

The lacrosse team fell to Fenwick 19-11 Grady Holmes, Brendan Bohon, Jack Hall and Jonathan Richter all registered goals for the Brave, they fall to 8-3 on the year but will have a chance to claim the SWOC championship (unofficially) on Wednesday at Edgewood.

The boys tennis team edged Wyoming last night, 3-2 was the final as they improve to 9-4 on the season, they’ll match up with the Seven Hills Stingers’ “B” team tonight, that’s the only home event at the Wilhelm Athletic Complex tonight.

A couple of big announcements came for the future of Talawanda Athletics over the EOC week, congrats to Mr. Davie down in guidance on being named the next head coach for the boys basketball team, and also a warm welcome to Jay Volker, he to Oxford after assisting the program at Kings high school pryor, he also has experience with successful programs Moeller and La Salle and additionally college coaching experience at Georgia Southern, so congrats and welcome to coach Volker, our football team is in good hands.

The baseball team had a tough week last week, splitting their doubleheader with Harrison, and being swept by Edgewood, the team has a change to get revenge on the Cougars tonight at home.

The softball team also went 1-3 last week with losses to Harrison and Hamilton and a split with Edgewood, they will also host the rival Cougars tonight.

The tennis team had better luck last week coming out on top in all 3 matches, first over Badin, then Ross and St. X “B” they are now 8-4 on the year they’ve got a long ride today as they will travel all the way to Wyoming, the one in Ohio of course, with their start time set for 4.

The track teams headed to Eaton this weekend, the girls took 5th and the boys took second, also 3 members headed to Lakota East to run in a very competitive field for the girls Maddy Iden was 4th in the 2 mile, Hannah Lippincott was 2nd in the mile, for the boys, Kiefer Bell was the lone athlete competing he placed 2nd in the 2 mile, just off school record pace finishing in 9:18, the team will head to Ross on Thursday and Friday.

The lacrosse team won both games last week, defeating Winton Woods 27-3, and Little Miami Friday 16-8, the team improves to 8-2 on the year and will travel to Bishop Fenwick for a matchup with falcons tonight.

Home games for this today: the baseball and softball teams both host Edgewood on the fields at 5.

Good Morning Talawanda. Today is Friday, April 16th, 2021.

Next week is EOC week at Talawanda High School.  Make sure you communicate with your teacher so you know your responsibilities for the day.  Only the students who are taking the test are required to report, but all other students will have Asynchronous work to complete.  Each teacher will have different requirements for attendance, but everyone will have work to do over the course of the week.  Communicate with your teachers if you have any questions.  Monday is English, Tuesday is History, Thursday is Math, and Friday is Science.  Best of luck on the state tests next week!

Shoutout to Zachary Goetz and OJ for being a couple of absolute beauticians with birthdays tomorrow.

It was a big night for the baseball bros last night Mason Ball and Evan “Cheese” “the fire hose” Kennel and Mason Birkemeier gave up just 4 hits total in a 3-2 win over Moeller, the team improves to 7-3 on the season with the final game of a back to back homestand tonight versus Ross.

The boys tennis team swept Northwest last night 5-0 they improve to 5-2 on the year and stay undefeated at 3-0 in the conference.

The JV tennis team registered their first win of the season last night over the Northwest Knights by a score of 3-2.  Wins were posted by Charles Murray @ 1st singles, Bodhi Ney @ 3rd singles, and Bryce James/Aidan Bruder @ 1st doubles.

Select members of the track team also competed at the Harrison reserve invite last night, the girls came away with a third place finish and the boys were 7th of the 14 teams competing, tonight the varsity runners will compete at the Greg Zueleger Harrison invite.

Home games for this weekend: the baseball and softball teams will both host the Ross Rams tonight at 5.

Happy Jackie Robinson Day everyone, now lets get into the sportz ballz

The tennis team dominated the Edgewood Cougars Tuesday evening taking the event 5-0. The following night they fell to a tough Fairfield squad by a 4-1 result.

Last night the baseball team run ruled Ross 11-1 in 5 innings. Brennyn Bell Bucher tossed a gem and Braden Wright picked up 3 rbi and a web gem in the field. Also, special shout out to Andrew Shrider for taking a wicked fastball off the dome.

Softball lost a tough one to Ross last night 11-8. The Brave were still able to put 10 hits on the board including doubles from Rachel Dsuban and Sophie Pierce.

Home games for today: Tennis will take on Northwest tonight at 4 and baseball will battle Moeller at 5

Bad luck for the Brave struck again last night with both the baseball and softball teams having to cancel their matchups with Mount Healthy those have been rescheduled to later in the year.

The tennis team fell to Little Miami 4-1 on the road last night, they fall to 3-2 on the season, tonight they will continue their road slate in Trenton as they will battle the Edgewood Cougars.

The lacrosse team came up with a big win last night at McNicholas, 19-7 was the score, Grady Holmes led the team with 9 goals, and Brendan Bohon had 5, also John Nelson had a big shot block for the Brave, the GCL road games continue for the lax bros on Thursday at La Salle.

Last weekend was plagued with bad weather for a number of athletic events, the baseball team’s Friday game versus Harrison was postponed until April 19th with the wildcats leading 4-1 in the 5th inning, also their home game versus Cincinnati Christian was cancelled, and the lacrosse game slated for Friday night was also cancelled, so we’ll do a rain dance this week and hope we’ll have some better luck.

The softball team did get through their game on Friday, it was their first conference loss of the year, the final score was 10-2 versus the Harrison wildcats, they fall to 8-2 overall with their next game scheduled for tonight at Mount Healthy.

Home games for this weekend: none, but good luck to baseball, softball, and tennis who all hit the road for matchups tonight.

Would you like to help a new student adapt to THS?  We are bringing back the ambassador program to match current students with new students.  Applications are available in the counseling office or online on the counseling website.

Setting Stone is pleased to announce the theme for the upcoming issue: Movement! The magazine will be unified by creative pieces that represent literal and metaphorical forms of movement. BUT! The staff needs your submissions to make this possible. Please submit any of your creative writing, photography, or visual art pieces to settingstone@talawanda.org, or by bringing them to room 320. We hope you’ll be a part of our award winning publication!

Congratulations to FCCLA Members who found out last night they were slated for State and Regional Offices.  Lauren Slattery and Taylor Gregory were slated as regional officers, and Lillian Shelley was double slated for state officer as State Secretary and Vice President of Member Engagement.  We find out the results on April 22nd!

If you are over 16, Baker concrete is offering paid summer training in Monroe.  This could lead to a full time position if graduated and 18 and over.  See your counselor for more information.

The baseball team lost 9-8 last night in a tough game against St Xavier, they fall to 5-3 on the year but will look to bounce back today in a conference matchup at Harrison.

Home games for this weekend: the tennis team will continue non-conference action with a 4 pm start against Elder today, the lacrosse team will host Wilmington tonight at 6:30, that game will be streamed live on Channel 85, and the baseball team will round out host duties for the Brave this weekend as they will play Cincinnati Christian tomorrow at 1.

Men’s Varsity Tennis was victorious yesterday away against Harrison, coming away with a 3-2 win.  The JV tennis team lost 4-1 last night however, with the lone win being posted by sophomore Charles Murray.  The Brave are back in action tonight away against Elder.

The varsity softball team improved their record in the league to 2-0 last night with a 10-3 win against Harrison.  The winning pitcher was McKenna Weekley, player of the game was Sophie Pierce with 3 hits and an RBI.  Lilly Iden, Rachel Dsuban, Katie Jones, Maggie Pierce, Halee McDade, and Jillian Berger all had offensive production for the Brave as well.  This marks the first time the Brave have beat Harrison since joining the SWOC.  Congratulations Ladies.

The JV softball team also came home a winner yesterday, beating Harrison by a score of 11 to 9.  Winning pitcher was Keylee Goerss, and lots of girls had lots of hits in this one too.  Keep in rolling Brave Fastpitch, both Varsity and JV are off to great starts.

The varsity baseball team lost a tough one to Harrison at home last night by a score of 9 to 7 in 9 innings.  The Brave had big lead going into the second half of this contest, only to have the Wildcats roar back in the 7th and send the game into extra innings. 

Home games today: It’s GCL day at Talawanda – JV Baseball will take on St. Xavier at 5pm and the Boys varsity Tennis will have Elder at 4.

We hope you’ll be a part of our award winning publication!

If you are over 16, Baker concrete is offering paid summer training in Monroe.  This could lead to a full time position if graduated and 18 and over.  See your counselor for more information.

Talawanda will be participating in Ohio Military Family Spirit Week next week, April 12th – 16th.  Monday will be support your favorite military branch day, Tuesday is Red, White, and Blue day, Wednesday is Camoflague day, Thursday is Statewide ‘Purple Up’ day, and Friday is RED day – Remember Everyone Deployed.  Talawanda is a Purple Star School and is proud to participate in this Spirit Week.

FCCLA will be hosting the spring Blood Drive to be held on Friday April 16th, 7:30-11:30.  You must be 16 years old to donate. Pick up forms from the office, room 611, outside room 611 and at lunch.

With the Baylor Bears winning the National Championship last night the Bracket Challenge has come to a close, congrats to Mr. Rhoton on second prize and congrats to this year’s champion, Caleb Bogseth.

Also a huge congrats to Ben Shrider who was named to the All-State hockey team for the second straight year and a huge congrats to second year head coach Zach Sens on being named state coach of the year.

The baseball team put up 4 touchdowns last night in a 28-1 decision over Northwest, they pick up a win in their first conference game of the season to improve to 5-1 on the year with another slate of conference on the schedule starting with a home game against Harrison Wednesday.

The lax bro’s suffered a tough loss last night at home versus Seven Hills, 10-9 was the score with the decision coming in overtime, they fall to 5-2 on the year.

The softball team picked up another big victory yesterday in 10-0 fashion over Northwest, McKenna Weekley pitched a complete game shutout and Molly Van Gorden and Katie Jones both went 3-3 for the Brave, they improve to 7-1 on the year and will continue with conference games at home versus Harrison Wednesday.

The tennis team took their first loss of the season at the hands of Lakota East last night, they fall to 2-1 on the year.

Lots of teams and athletes up for Cincinnati Enquirer weekly honors this week, Kaydence Morris and Julio Fuentes are both up for track, Rachel Dsuban is up for softball, and her team is up for girls team of the week as well, so make sure to vote for everyone on the Cincinnati Enquirer’s high school sports page.

Home games today: the track team will host Harrison, Monroe and Badin in a quad starting at 4:30.
