And now for a boys soccer team promo.

Birthdays for today: Kaeleigh Pence turning 17, Elana Jones turning 15, Tristen Alexander turning 15.  Also happy birthday to Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. White.

And now for Patty G with sports.

The girls soccer team picked up their first win of the season yesterday in a 2-0 victory over Princeton. Kyra Koontz and Ainsley Clark scored the goals in the Brave’s home opener. They are now 1-0-1 on the season, and will play next Thursday at home against Little Miami.

The girls volleyball team also picked up their first win of the season yesterday in a 4 set victory at Hamilton. Their overall record improves to 1-2 — next up for them is a home match on Thursday against Little Miami.

The boys varsity golf team played an inter-squad scramble yesterday. Both teams were tied after 9 holes, but the team of Austin Goerss, Charlie Faler, and I won in the playoff on the 10th hole after Faler’s birdie putt for two golf balls and bragging rights.

And the girls tennis team won their second straight match with a 3-2 victory over Little Miami. They improve to 2-0 in the conference and 2 and 5 overall — they’ll play next Thursday at home against Harrison, so every single Braves team that played last night won their game or match, pretty impressive.

And we are trying something new this year here on the sports. Every week we’ll name our Talawanda Athletes of the week from past performances.  This week’s athletes are Adam Crank and Maddy Iden. Crank rushed for 139 yards and scored 2 Touchdowns in the Braves win over Preble Shawnee on Friday.  He also passed for 81 yards in the Braves win and averaged 7.0 yards per carry in the team’s 34-12 victory. And Maddy Iden led her team to a first place finish out of 11 teams at the Talawanda Braves Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.  She finished with a 3rd place finish out of 139 runners. Congratulations to our athletes of the week.

Home games for today: Girls Varsity Golf takes on Edgewood at Oxford Country Club at 4, and the Girls Field Hockey team plays Summit Country Day at the field at 6:30. That game will be live streamed on YouTube tonight. Luke West Poley and I will have the call.

And that’s our broadcast on this Wednesday. I’m Patrick Geshan. Thanks so much for watching, and we’ll see you tomorrow.

Thursday was a good day for Talawanda boys golf, with the varsity and JV teams both defeating Little Miami in the conference play at Hueston Woods.  The varsity score was 174 to 182, with medalist Austin Goerss shooting a round of 41.  I shot 43, and Nick Vandenberg and Charlie Faler rounded out the top four with scores of 45.  The Braves are now 4 & 0 overall, and 2 & 0 in the conference.

The JV team came in with a score of 193 to Little Miami’s 269.  The win was a total team effort with the top four scores being between three 48s and a 49.  The JV record now stands at 4 & 1 overall, and 2 & 0 in conference play.  Both teams will be back in action next week, with conference matches against Northwest and Ross on Tuesday at Hueston Woods.
