Good morning, Talawanda! Today is Friday, August 24, 2018

Do you enjoy helping in the community?  Or are you looking for a way to become more involved?  Or even just looking for service hours?  If so, join the Talawanda Key Club.  We do many service projects throughout the year and will be holding our first meeting on Monday, August 27th right after school in Mr. Ruther’s room, 423.  Come and learn about the club and meet the officers.

Do you have old books from when you were younger that you don’t read anymore?  Instead of just throwing them out, donate them!  This is a district wide book drive sponsored by the Butler Tech/Talawanda FCCLA Chapter.  Anyone from any of these schools can donate.  You can drop the books off to any of the Talawanda School’s Main Offices, in the designated boxes!  The Book Drive will start on August 27th and run until September 7th!  All of the books will go to our local Children’s Hospitals.  If you have any questions feel free to ask Braelynn Wagers, Hannah Cress or Mrs. Gregory in room 611.

The drama club will be having an informational meeting after school on September 6 in the THS Performing Arts Center.  Anyone who is interested in seeing what goes in to the fall play both onstage and backstage should come and see what drama is all about.  If you cannot make it to the meeting and still want to audition, they will be there after school on September 11.  If you have any other questions, please see Ms. Hudson or Mr. Steffen in room 317.

Attention National Honor Society Seniors:  Please read your email from Ms. Alfonsi regarding Marshall Mentors.

Anyone who would like to join Best Buddies this school year should plan to come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, August 28 right after school in Room 316.  The meeting is a great way to learn more about the club and register for this year.  Members from last year should plan to attend too!

Any student interested in running for class officers, please pick up an application outside Ms. Mann’s room.

Setting Stone will meet on Monday, after school, in Mr. Areni’s room.  If you are interested in being a part of Talawanda’s award-winning literary-art magazine, or of the Coffee Houses held throughout the year or just want to see what this club is all about, come out to Monday’s meeting!

Diversity Club is having our first meeting on Tuesday after school until 3:20 in room 312.  We invite everyone interested to stop by to eat some snacks and discuss how we can make THS more inclusive this year!

And now for embarrassing school stories.

Birthdays for today: Let’s wish a special happy birthday to Mrs. Hofmann.

And now for world news and then Patty G with sports.

Thursday was a good day for Talawanda boys golf, with the varsity and JV teams both defeating Little Miami in the conference play at Hueston Woods.  The varsity score was 174 to 182, with medalist Austin Goerss shooting a round of 41.  I shot 43, and Nick Vandenberg and Charlie Faler rounded out the top four with scores of 45.  The Braves are now 4 & 0 overall, and 2 & 0 in the conference.

The JV team came in with a score of 193 to Little Miami’s 269.  The win was a total team effort with the top four scores being between three 48s and a 49.  The JV record now stands at 4 & 1 overall, and 2 & 0 in conference play.  Both teams will be back in action next week, with conference matches against Northwest and Ross on Tuesday at Hueston Woods.

And in other results from WEDNESDAY, the GIRLS golf team won their dual match between Taylor and conference foe Little Miami, improving their record to 4 and 2 overall. Talawanda’s team score of 232 beat Taylor’s score of 237 and Little Miami’s score of 247, so congratulations to them.

The girls field hockey team opened their season yesterday at home against Ursuline, and lost 15-0. Earlier in the day, the JV team fell 8-0, but Ursuline is usually a top competitor in the state for Field Hockey.

Want to tell remind all wrestlers the wrestling team will be having open practices every Sunday at 5 starting this Sunday.

Home games for this weekend: Boys and Girls cross country opens their season with the Talawanda Invitational tomorrow at the school at 9 am, and the Girls Soccer team takes on Winton Woods at 7 tomorrow night. Now there are no home games for TODAY but the High School Football regular season officially gets underway in Ohio tonight. Talawanda will visit Preble Shawnee for a week one matchup with the Arrows. Preble Shawnee went 8 and 2 last season after winning their first 3 games of the year. Kickoff is tonight at 7pm. It’s a black out and we’ll see you up there.

And that’s our broadcast on this Thursday. I’m Patrick Geshan. Thanks so much for watching and we’ll see you tomorrow.
