Marley: And I’m Marley. Welcome to another exciting edition of Talawanda High School  Daily News.

Gracie: Let’s dive right in. Last Saturday, the Drastic Park Rangers ventured into the regional Destination Imagination competition and boy, did they bring the heat!

Marley: Absolutely, Gracie. The team, comprised of Izzy Anders, Addi Greene, Kai Ironstrack, Thea Holley, and Bryce Wortman, brought history to life with their performance, artwork, and technical prowess.

Gracie: And get this, despite a meteor hurtling towards them in their performance, they clinched the first-place spot! Talk about dedication.

Marley: They’ve punched their ticket to the State competition on April 6th. Let’s root for them, Talawanda!

Gracie: In other news, a quick reminder for all you Setting Stone enthusiasts out there. There’s a meeting tomorrow after school in room 320.

Marley: And mark your calendars, because there’s a Setting Stone magazine design and development session this Saturday, March 9th, from 9:30 to 1:00 in Aerni’s room.

Gracie: Also mark your calendars for March 15th! Here with more information on the THS Spring Blood Drive are FCCLA members Holly and Megan.

Gracie: Talawanda, we’ve got an important announcement regarding the THS recycling pickup program.

Marley: That’s right, Gracie. Due to ongoing issues with non-recyclable items being placed in recycling containers, the program is making a slight change.

Gracie: Starting now, they’ll be limiting classroom recycling to paper only. Everything else, from food to drinks to non-recyclable trash, needs to go in the regular trash cans.

Marley: Remember, folks, let’s keep it clean and green. Dispose of non-paper items properly. Together, we can make a difference.

Over the weekend we had three Talawanda students attend the State indoor track and field meet at the Spire Institute.

 

Lucia Rodbro competed in the 3200, finishing 8th overall

Adriana Luking competed in the 1600 run finishing 10th overall

And Olivia Andrews competed in pole vault finishing 17th overall

Congrats to each of them and good work, can’t wait to see each of you back out there for outdoor season, which is right around the corner

As spring season approaches we look forward to seeing track, baseball, softball, and tennis back in action for the 2024 season.

ALEXA: Attention juniors: the ACT is tomorrow. Remember to get plenty of rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive a bit early to avoid feeling rushed. Freshmen, sophomores, and seniors will not have school tomorrow.

ALEXA:	Hey Sienna, are you excited for the talent show this year?

ADDI:	Lots to talk about from over the weekend as both wrestling and swim wrapped up their season so lets get into it. The wrestling team was in action at their sectional tournament at Lebanon HIgh School this past Saturday. It was a tough tournament, but THS wrestler Will Tanner came away with a sixth place finish. That’s a wrap on the wrestling for this year–nice work this season, wrestlers. This past weekend both Anna Gregg and Abbie Curry competed at the Ohio High School State Swim Championships.  Both represented Talawanda well as Anna finished 30th in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 31st in the 100 Yard Butterfly, while Abbie finished 12th in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 16th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. An extra special congratulations to Abbie as she broke a 15 year old school record in the 100 Yard Breaststroke at the state meet, this is her 2nd school record of the year. This meet officially wrapped up the high school swim & dive season. Congrats to all the swimmers and divers on another outstanding year. And a final reminder to all swimmers, the banquet will be Saturday, March 9th at 6 PM in the high school cafeteria. Also this weekend we had three people qualify for the indoor track and field state meet. Adriana Luking qualified in the 1600 run, Olivia Andrews qualified in pole vault, and Lucia Rodbro qualified in the 3200 run also qualifying for New Balance Nationals in Boston. The state meet will take place Friday March 1st at the Spire Institute, good luck to each of you. That’s all for sports today

ADDI:	Starting with last night Both basketball teams had their first round of tournament. Boys basketball fell to Moeller while Girls Basketball fell to Lakota East. We hope to hear some good news regarding Anna Gregg and Abbie Curry as they finish up their races Wrestling will be taking on the sectionals meet tomorrow at Lebanon High School. ADDI:	before we get into the start of tournament events tonight lets talk about academic challenge from last night. The Academic Challenge team swept Harrison to finish the season undefeated in both varsity and JV.  The varsity team won by scores of 62-41 and 66-42 they were led by our only senior Lydia Bartel.  The JV team won their match 67-48.  What makes the JV team’s record more impressive is that they are a team of freshmen that often are competing against juniors and seniors.  The team will be back in action February 28 in the SWOC/ECC tournament and it is officially tournament season for both basketball teams as they will both take on the first round tonight. Starting with boys basketball they will be heading over to Fairfield HS facing off against Moeller at 6 As for girls basketball they will be on the road to Lebanon to face off against Lakota East. EVAN:	Today in class FCCLA students are having a speaker about distracted driving, one of our national programs Families Acting on Community Traffic Safety (FACTS)
GIULIANO:	Next week they will be sponsoring a school wide contest for the best PSA or Poster to help promote the dangers of distracted driving and there will be prizes!
EVAN:	Setting stone coffee house tickets are now going on sale for 3 dollars in advance and 5 dollars at the door.

EVAN:	Another fun thing that is happening around our school is class officers organizing Friday Fun Fit days!
GIULIANO:	On Friday Feb 23 our theme will be Mardi Gras (gold, green, purple). Follow the weekly theme and you just might win random prizes simply for dressing the part and being seen by teachers!
EVAN:	Next week is FFA Week. To celebrate, FFA is putting on themed days each day next week.

KATE:	and I’m KATE. Here’s what’s happening around THS:
TESSA:	First up sports announcements, Talawanda baseball tryouts are being held in the THS Gym on February 19th to February 21st. 9th and 10th graders will be from 6-7:30pm and 11th and 12th graders will be from 7:30pm to 9pm.
KATE:	Along with the tryouts, there will be an informational meeting during tutorial this thursday
TESSA:	Next Track and Field season is just around the corner! Tomorrow, Wednesday the 14th, there will be an informational meeting being held in the cafeteria after school.
KATE:	Attention Seniors! The Talawanda High School Local Scholarship and the Oxford Community Foundation Scholarship are now available and are located in the guidance office.
TESSA:	The deadline for the Talawanda High School Local Scholarship is February 23rd by 3pm

KATE:	Now for some updates about FCCLA.
TESSA:	Tuesday is “FCCLA Day of Service ” Serving your community with leadership skills and a stellar attitude is the foundation of FCCLA. The Butler Tech and THS Chapters offer over 5,000 hours of service opportunities a year to members.
KATE:	They plan such events as Veterans Day, Trunk or Treat, 3 events at Senior Center, 2 blood drives,and more!  Students will be having a speaker from the Oxford Senior Center about the importance of volunteering.
TESSA:	As for their spirit week Today’s theme was college apparel and tomorrow’s spirit day theme is Pink, so make sure you wear your pink clothing.
