The Oxford Parks and Recreation Department would like your thoughts about the possibility of designing a Teen Center within the TRI Community Center. Students who are in grades 6th-12th would be welcome to use the teen center. Our vision for the Teen Center would include game systems, arcade-style games, “plug n play” systems, flat screen TVs, a study area and a sound system for music.  We are looking forward to designing a safe place for teens in the community to have fun, be active, and hang out with friends. Please take the time to answer these questions honestly. Your input is important and appreciated!

Tigerland is the story of a Black High School’s triumph in inner city Columbus during the turbulent civil rights movement. In the year 1969, the East High Tigers won both the state basketball and baseball championships, despite a severe economic  disadvantage. But their African-American sports teams triumphed over the wealthy white schools during the tournament. I sat down with the book’s author Wil Haygood on Tuesday, to talk about his story of triumph, and Tigerland’s place in the 21st century. The full interview is 12 minutes long, so if there is not enough time in your class today, you don’t have to watch all of it. If there’s any part of the interview you should catch, it would be the last 3 minutes, when Haygood gives advice to today’s young students. We’ll also post the full interview on our YouTube channel after today’s news. That’s our broadcast on this Thursday. I’m Patrick Geshan. My conversation now with Wil Haygood.

The boys basketball team fell to Moeller on Tuesday night by a score of 58-17 in divisional round playoff action. David Kraushar led Talawanda with 5 points and  4 players tallied 3. The Brave end the season with a 1-22 overall record. They were assigned a very tough task on Tuesday and like always put tremendous effort night in and night out. And we acknowledge the bright future ahead for the boys basketball team.

The boys bowling team earned 8th place honors out of 24 teams at the Southwest District Championships yesterday. And while the team and none of the individuals advanced to state, the Brave did finish in the top 3rd of the district in the team’s first appearance.   Gage Fakes led Talawanda with a 650 series and Aiden Lingsch bowled a 631.  Jarrett White was third with a score of 622. The boys bowling team’s season is over, and we congratulate them on a great year. The girls bowling team has their district tournament today, and they begin action at 9:30.

This past weekend at the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Championships, the boys 200 medley relay team of John Anzano, Blake Madden, Ben Crowder, and Rhyan Meyers placed 23rd in the state. Mercy Patterson earned 24th place honors in Ohio for her 100 back performance, and Sam Hool placed 7th in the 1 meter diving event. Congratulations to all of the athletes for a great swimming season. Moments ago, I caught up with Head Coach Pasquale for his take on the weekend.

Part of my conversation with Coach Pasquale this morning, another great year for our swim and dive teams at Talawanda. And a special congratulations to the Talawanda FFA charity basketball teams as they wrapped up their final tournament on Saturday. The Varsity team finished the year with 5 wins and 6 losses, and the JV team ended with a 9-4 record. What’s most important, they raised over $1,200.00 for Dayton Children’s Hospital.

No home games for today.
