JV tennis defeated Fairfield last night 3-2.  Wins were posted by Brennan Cameron, Jotham Morris, Jaxson Gladwell, and Grant Monson.  Their record climbs to 11-6 overall.

Well, the Columbus Blue Jackets pulled off the greatest upset in the NHL season last night knocking off what was by far the regular season’s best team in the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4, and completing the first round series sweep. They’ll play either Toronto or Boston in the next round after what was an incredible atmosphere in Columbus last night. As for the NBA Tuesday,  Toronto tied their series up with Orlando, so did the Nuggets with the Spurs, and the Trail Blazers take a 2-0 series lead over OKC.

In Talawanda results last night, the Lacrosse team picked up a road win last night by a score of 16-6 at Winton Woods. Grady Holmes led the team in goals with 6. Tommy Winkler had 5 and Christian Adkins-Lamb had 4. The lacrosse team’s next game will be Friday at home against Edgewood.

The baseball team played against Middletown and lost by a score of 6-3. They’ll play again tonight at home against Mount Healthy, first pitch at 5:00.

The men’s varsity tennis team beat Little MIami last night by a 4-1 score. They are 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the SWOC. The men’s JV Tennis team lost 3-2 in a tough one to Little Miami. Wins were posted by Brennan Cameron and Jotham Morris for the JV Team.  Now the track team also competed last night at home with the Dale Plank Invitational, but we didn’t get those results, so we will pass those along to you tomorrow.

Home games for today: Boys Varsity Baseball takes on Mt. Healthy at 5 and Varsity Softball hosts Mt. Healthy at 5.

The baseball team faced off against Mt. Healthy last night, they came home with the 24-0 W. They’ll play today at Middletown with first pitch at 5.

The softball team picked up their first conference win last night against Mt. Healthy. 11-3 was the score — the softball team’s overall record improves to 4-9 overall.    

The men’s JV Tennis team lost a hard fought battle to Walnut Hills by a score of 3-2. Brennan Cameron and Jotham Morris posted the wins for the JV Tennis team. 

Home games for today:  Boys Varsity Tennis hosts Little Miami at 4, JV baseball hosts Middletown at 5, Freshman baseball hosts Monroe at 5, and The Varsity Track teams have the Dale Plank Invitational tonight out at the field with the action beginning at 4:30.   

Yesterday in notable playoff games, the Leafs knocked off the Bruins 3-2 to take a 2-1 first-round series lead in the Stanley Cup Playoffs — and the Golden State Warriors gave up a huge lead to the LA Clippers who beat them 135-131 to tie the series at 1.

The baseball team had an eventful weekend playing Harrison Friday and beating them by a score of 23-7. The Brave recorded 20 hits against the Wildcats but the highlight of the weekend was Saturday night when the Baseball team went down the road to McKee Field for the Reds High School Showcase. The Brave went against Colerain and won by a score of 3-2 with Ian Heiman threw a 6 inning no hitter. Josh Hartman came in clutch in the bottom of the 6th when he hit a single that scored the winning runs for the Brave. Ian Heiman won MVP of the game earning him an engraved baseball bat and a trip to an upcoming Red’s game where he’ll be announced, Congrats Ian

The lacrosse team fell to Anderson at home by a 16-3 score on Saturday. Tom Winkler had 2 goals in the game. The lacrosse team’s next game will be Tuesday at Winton Woods.

The softball team lost at Harrison on Friday by a score of 13-3. Their record drops to 3-9 overall, and 0-4 in the SWOC.   

The men’s varsity tennis team beat the Seven Hills B team on Friday 3-2, they improve to 8-5 overall, and the men’s JV Tennis team also defeated Seven Hills 3-2 last Friday. Grant Monson, John Klacik, Jacob Tyree, Max Kelly, and Tyler Morrison all posted the wins for Talawanda. Their record climbs to 10-4 overall.

Home games for today:  JV Softball hosts Mt. Healthy at 5 and Freshman Baseball hosts Roger Bacon at 5.

So it was a crazy day in sports yesterday. The Blue Jackets beat the Tampa Bay Lightning to astoundingly take a 3-0 first round series lead over the NHL’s best team, and yesterday at the masters:

So the Tiger comeback story is super inspiring and emotional to a lot of people and not even golf fans. It showed everyone that you can come back from rock bottom to be at the top again. And yesterday after his round, Tiger said on CBS he was “prodding” through the golf course yesterday. Well, it reminds me of the position were in now at this school. 4 days to go until the long break that gives us a little taste of summer and what’s to come. It seems so far away, and yet it isn’t. Yes, there are a lot of expectations and tests, and everything else. But if we just prod through the next 4 days and finish, like Tiger did, the long awaited break will come.

The Lacrosse team beat Wilmington last night by a 14-2 tally. Tommy Winkler totaled for 8 goals, leading the team. Grady Holmes, Brendan Bohan, Tyler Englehard, and Christian Adkins-Lamb also earned points in the game. The lacrosse team plays next Thursday against Carrol. 

The softball team lost to Little MIami last night by a score of 12-5 on the road. They fall to 2-6 overall, and 0-2 in the conference.     

The men’s tennis team beat Badin last night on the road by a 5-0 tally. Their record improves to 7-4 overall. The men’s tennis team will play next against St. X tonight at 4. 

And  even though the swim & dive season is over, the awards still continue to roll in for the Brave Swim & Dive Teams.  Last week both the boys and girls teams were named All-American Scholar Teams.  The girls team earned silver status by having a team GPA of 3.625, while the boys team earned bronze status with a team GPA of 3.456.  Also, individually Rory Adryan, Olivia Baker, Arthur de Boer, Casey Johnston, and Sean Mondello were named Academic All-Americans.  To become an Academic All-American you must be a senior, have a GPA greater than a 3.75, and have earned a varsity letter during your senior year.  There are over 340,000 students that compete in high school swimming & diving across the country and only 2% of these students are named Academic All-Americans.  Congratulations to all on getting the job done in the pool and in the classroom as well.

And all boys interested in playing golf next fall should attend a brief informational meeting Tuesday immediately after school in Mr. Cawein’s room. (Room 215).  If you have questions feel free to stop by and see Mr. Cawein.

Setting Stone is accepting submissions through this week to be included in its Spring publication. The Talawanda Drama department is selling tickets for their spring musical of Freaky Friday. The shows are April 4 and 5 at 7:00pm, and April 6 at 1:00pm and 7:00pm all in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $7 presale and $8 at the door. Tickets can be purchased from a cast or crew member throughout the day, and during all lunches. Do you want to donate blood but was worried about missing class? Now is your chance to make a difference! Mr. Meece requested the entire school see the ending of the Purdue-Tennessee game last night with his Boilermakers moving on to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2000 — a huge win over the Vols last night in Louisville. And Purdue is a Final Four team in my bracket as well, so I’m happy. Virginia and Gonzaga also picked up wins in last night’s games, and the Michigan Wolverines fell to Texas Tech, so luckily they are done. 4 games on the March Madness schedule tonight, and my pick for tonight’s upset is the 3 seed Houston over the 2 seed Kentucky — that game tonight at 10pm.

The Varsity Baseball Team defeated Bishop Fenwick last night by a score of 7-6. It came down to the last pitch with a full count, bases loaded, and 2 outs when Brecken Hornsby made the play to get the Brave a W. Dylan Betz gets the win on the hill and Tyler Prater earned the save. The Baseball team will play against tonight at 5:00 against Lebanon at Lebanon High School.

The softball team lost to Franklin County last night at home by a score of 13-3. They fall to 1-1 on the season, and will play double header tomorrow at Finneytown, with Game 1 at 11 am. 

And the men’s tennis team beat Fenwick last night on the road by a 4-1 margin. They improve to 2-2 on the year.

Home games for this weekend: The men’s tennis team takes on Walnut Hills at 4. And the JV baseball teams take on Lebanon at 5. Saturday, the JV softball takes on Franklin in a double-header starting at 11, and the JV baseball team takes on Loveland at noon.

NHS Volleyball tournament is tonight from 6:30 to 8:30. It is free to watch and will be lots of fun.

Plenty of games today for Talawanda teams as the Spring sports season gets into full swing. The Baseball team will start off the regular season tomorrow with a tri-double header against Sycamore and Springfield.  We also wish the lacrosse team good luck as they travel to Xenia tonight for a game starting at 6:30.  The track team has their first meet tomorrow at Harrison, the action begins at 11 am. And the Boys Tennis team begins their regular season at home with a meeting this afternoon with Lasalle. The match begins at 4 pm.    

And in March Madness yesterday,     16 First Round games were played, and I was incorrect in picking yesterday ’s upset. Maryland held on to beat Belmont 79-77 in a thriller yesterday afternoon. Other scores of interest yesterday, the 12 seed Murray State knocked off the 5 seed Marquette to bust a lot of brackets, and the 10 seed Florida knocked off 7th seeded Nevada last night. So, with 16 more first-round games today, my pick for Friday’s upset is 12th seeded Oregon over 5th seeded Wisconsin. That game at 4:30 today.

The Spring Blood Drive will be on Friday, April 12th. Forms are ready for pick up in the office, room 611, or during lunch. Please turn in your forms to the office, room 611 or during lunch by April 10th, you will pick your time when you turn your form in. Talawanda High School is a red cord school. If you donate blood 3 times during high school you will receive red cords for graduation.  For every person who donates blood, you save 3 lives, what a great way to give to those in need!

Last night, the softball team scrimmaged Kentucky school St. Henry, with Varsity playing the first 4 innings and JV playing the last 4. Talawanda had a good performance in a tune-up before the regular season.    The baseball team heads to Preble Shawnee tonight for their final scrimmage.

In March Madness Tuesday, Fairleigh Dickinson earned their first tournament win over Prarie View to move on to play Duke in First Round action Thursday, and Belmont knocked off Temple to advance into the bracket as well. Tonight in Dayton, the First Four wraps up with a pair of games: Arizona State takes on St. Johns at 6:40 and NC Central plays North Dakota State.    

Yesterday, the decision was finalized by Miami University to make a change in the leadership of its hockey program.  Rico Blasi has been relieved of his duties as head coach. Rico is my godfather, a lifelong family friend, and ranks highly on the list of the most generous and caring people I know. It’s an emotional and uncertain time for many families today in Oxford, including mine.  The positive support received in the past 24 hours has been strongly appreciated.

Today, Best Buddies is celebrating Best Buddies month with two important and AWESOME events. Help us “Spread the Word to End the Word” by signing our banner and pledging to no longer use the “R” word in your everyday vocabulary. Second, help us celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing crazy, mismatched socks to school. Help us by showing your support of inclusion and all our students here at THS!

The Varsity Baseball team faced off against Roger Bacon last night. Mason Hansford started on the mound. Talawanda beat Roger Bacon 14-2 improving their scrimmage record to 3-0.

The Lacrosse team also picked up a win last night, they beat Winton Woods in their home opener by a 14-8 score. Grady Holmes had 8 goals in that game with 3 assists. Tommy Winkler had 6 assists in the game last night. So the lax bros improve to 1-0.

And finally today, two games in the March Madness First Four tonight to start the tournament.  Fairleigh Dickinson takes on Prarie View at 6:40 and Belmont tips against Temple at 9:10, those games are in Dayton tonight.
