Good morning Talawanda, today is Wednesday , January 11th, 2023.

There are upcoming drama club auditions for the first musical post-COVID, called Ruthless. They will be happening Friday after-school until 5. You should come prepared with a memorized 1 minute monologues (not Shakespeare) and a 60-90 second song prepared if you are interested in a singing part.

The YIT meeting will be reschedule for Thursday, January 12th.  We will meet after school.  No meeting today.

Talawandas High School Mock Trial team has been very successful over the last few years, Caleb Bogseth decided to catch up with them last week, here is his report.

Talawanda Bible Study resumes Today after school from 2:15-3:00pm in the main office. We want to build community and see God’s Word go out in our school. If you have questions contact Dean Cradduck.

Talawanda Baseball is looking for enthusiastic students willing to be announcers for our 2023 season!! Those willing and able will be compensated for their time! See Coach Lykins in room 413 by Friday, January 13th if you’re interested!

Boys Basketball took out Northwest last night in a close conference match 50-47. Bryce James stepped up and recorded a season best 17 points, the boys improve to 3-1 in the SWOC and are tied for first place, and their next game will be here against Ross on Friday.

Some action after school today, Girls Basketball is back in conference play, they’ll head to Edgewood for a 7:30 tip-off, and Academic Challenge takes on Mt. Healthy.

I decided to catch up with Mr. Marston and Mr. Pearson about auditioning and all the course offerings that have for next school year.

Boys basketball is on the road tonight for a SWOC match at Northwest, the boys are riding a 4 game winning streak and look to improve to 3-1 in conference play at 7:30.

Monday, January 9th 2023

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday , January 9th, 2023.

Off season workouts start today for football players not participating in a winter sport. Be in the weight room right after school, we will be done by 4:15.

Congratulations to THS’s Mock Trial teams for their outstanding performances at the University of Cincinnati’s High School Mock Invitational on 1/8/23.  THS Team On the Docket took second place in the tournament with Senior Shr-Shiang Moore winning both an Outstanding Witness and Outstanding Attorney Award and senior Kate Bolenbaugh winning an Outstanding Witness Award.  THS Team Plead the Fifth had Shr-Lin Moore (9th) and Jared Sims (9th) win Outstanding Witness Awards.

Last semester, Project Green Club helped with the campaign for recycling, worked in the THS garden, and created a Geocache Adventure Trail for Marshall Elementary that we got to guide 5th-graders through. We would love to have YOU join us this semester for more meaningful, environment-based activities. Project Green meets every Tuesday after school in Mrs. Ruther’s room (224). All are welcome!”

Boys Basketball defeated Mt. Healthy 56-44 for their second conference win of the season improving their overall record to 7-3, the boys will be back in action tomorrow.

Also taking a W over the weekend was the Girls team, they took out Harrison 63-34, Kylee Fears and Taylor Farris lead the way, both of them collecting 16 points in the victory. The girls stay undefeated, they sit 5-0 in SWOC play and 11-0 overall.

This weekend the wrestling team competed in the Valley View Invitational.  Will Tanner placed 6th at 157 pounds, Caleb Dilhoff placed 6th at 175, Colton Back placed 5th at 120 , Gavin Boner finished 2nd at 113 and Sammy Dillon finished 2nd at 150.
This week the team has a busy schedule.  On Thursday they will have a senior night at the Middle School vs. Northwest, On Friday they will compete in the In-School Dual against Middletown, and on Saturday they will travel to the Sycamore invitational.

Indoor Track competed at Wittenberg on Saturday, the girls 4×800 finished 2nd and broke the indoor school record. Henry Hoblitzell won the Pole vault, Lucia Rodbro broke the school record in the 1600, and Hailey O’Brian finished 3rd in high jump.

No home games tonight but Bowling will head to Harrison looking to bounce back from a defeat to the hands of Ross.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Friday , January 6th, 2023.

We are appreciative that our students don’t always remember to charge their Chromebooks, but we do need to be sure that our limited supply of loaner devices is returned each day. As a result, the THS Media Center will be trading cell phones or car keys for loaner Chromebooks this semester. Those students without a cell phone or car keys to “trade in” will be asked to phone a parent/guardian for approval.

The diversity club will begin meeting after school each Friday from 3-4 in room 221. We will meet today to talk about goals for the remainder of the year. New members are always welcome!

The first athlete of the week ballot for 2023 is out, make sure to vote Boys Basketball as team of the week, Logan Smith as boys basketball player of the week, and Maren Patterson as Swimmer of the week at Cincinnati Enquirer.

No home games but a few events tonight as Boys Basketball will head to Mt. Healthy for a conference match tonight at 7:30. Swimming will meet with Hamilton and Ross at 5

Lots of action over the weekend, kicking it off with Girls Basketball on Saturday, they’ll be hosting Harrison in a SWOC match at 2:30. Also on Saturday, Wrestling will have a meet at Valley View High School, and closing it out Sunday, Swimming will be at the Bethel Invite

That’s our sports for today but our very own Anna Newlin and Hallie Schutte were dog sitting in New York City over winter break and decided to go to a taping of the Today Show. Trust me you don’t want to miss this video. See you Monday.

Since our last news cast on December 12th, Girls Basketball has stayed undefeated winning 6 games over the break. The girls are 10-0 overall, 4-0 in SWOC and have their next game Saturday.

Also playing well over the break was Boys Basketball who went 4-1, the only loss coming to Edgewood. The Boys next three games will all be conference matches starting with one tomorrow at Mt. Healthy.

The Bowling teams had one reported score, both losing to Edgewood, the Girls 1835 to 1316, the Boys 2125 to 1958. Bowling is back in action tonight against Ross.

Over the break, the varsity wrestling team competed in the Madison Mohawk Invitational.  Sammy Dillon placed 2nd at 150, Will Tanner placed 2nd at 157 and Gavin Boner took home gold at 113 pounds.  The JV team competed at the Colerain Invitational.  Sam Taylor placed 6th at 120 and Caleb Dilhoff placed 5th at 175.  This weekend, the team will travel to the Valley View Invitational.

No home games today but there is a home meet, Swimming is hosting Little Miami and Butler at the Rec at 6.

Monday, December 12th

 

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, December 12th, 2022.
Talawanda did a great job at Mock Hawk yesterday. Eliot Berberich and Katherine Bolenbaugh were awarded best witnesses and Eliza Sullivan was awarded second ranking attorney. Congratulations to them and the rest of the Varsity team!
Exams start tomorrow in 7th period. Make sure you’re prepared and studying!

Now for Zander with Moore sports.
This past weekend the wrestling team competed in the 48th annual Edgewood invitational.  Will Tanner placed 6th at 157, Sammy Dillon placed 5th at 150, and Gavin Boner placed 3rd at 113.  This upcoming weekend the team will compete in the Madison Mohawk invitational.

Boys basketball went 1-1 on the weekend, the win came in their first conference match of the year against Harrison where Isaiah Meade-Moss collected 15 points after shooting 3 for 5 from the 3 point line.

Indoor track was at Tiffin over the weekend, Lucia Rodbro won the 3200 meter with a time of 11:17 which was good for first place in the meet and Haley O’Brien finished 2nd place in high jump with 5 feet.

No home games for tonight, but Girls Basketball is on the road to play treble Shawnee at 7:30.

Friday, December 9th

Good morning Talawanda, today is Friday, December 9th, 2022.
Varsity Mock trial will meet Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30
Mock trial will meet at Farmer School of Business main lobby at 8:15 a.m. this Sunday for Mock Hawk.
Students in Ms. Webb’s class, please remember to come work on your Monomyth projects if needed.
Exams are starting next week on Tuesday during 7th period.  Make sure you study!
The senior superlative form has been emailed to all seniors. Please complete it by Monday so your vote can be counted.
Now for Zander with Moore sports.
Girls Basketball took home a non-conference win against Monroe last night, 50-33 was the final. Kylee Fears starts the season with her fourth straight double-double recording 25 points and 17 rebounds, Taylor Farris had herself a night as well with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. The girls start the year 4-0 and head to Preble Shawnee on Monday.
Boys Bowling won their match over Mt. Healthy 1666 to 1417, Derek Hacker bowled a 142.5 average in the victory. While on the girls side they lost a close one, decided by just 6 pins Mt. Healthy won 1175 to 1169, Josephine Thompson lead the girls win a 135.5 average in the defeat.
Starting off the weekend Boys Basketball will travel to Harrison for their first SWOC match tonight at 7:30, and Wrestling will head to the Edgewood Invite right after school at 5:30.

Thursday, December 8th

Good morning Talawanda, today is Thursday, December 8th, 2022.

NHS is hosting after school tutoring in the Media Center from today. It will end at 4 pm today. All grades are welcome to attend, and snacks will be provided.

Girls Basketball took out Edgewood last night claiming their first SWOC win of the season, Kylee Fears recorded her third straight double double while Myah Keene put up 14 points of her own, the team remains undefeated at an overall record of 3 and 0 and will head to Monroe for a non-conference game tonight.
Bowling will play their first match of the season after the previous one was postponed, the opener will be on the road against Mt. Healthy at 4pm.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, December 5th, 2022.
There will be a diversity club holiday party after school until 4:30 today, in Mrs. Schulze’s room 200. We will have crafts, hot chocolate, snacks, and good company! New members are always welcome.
The Talawanda FTC Robotics Club participated in a scrimmage at Miami University this past Saturday. Olivia Andrews represented the team and Talawanda scored points and assisted in wins in each match.
The Robotics Club will meet each today and Wednesday after school in room 412 to prepare for a large competition at Miami University on January 14th.  Any new members are welcome.
NHS is hosting after school tutoring in the Media Center from Tuesday, December 6 until Thursday, December 8. It will end at 4 pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and end at 3:15 on Wednesday. All grades are welcome to attend, and snacks will be provided.

Boys basketball took out Monroe 59-56 for their first win of the season, congrats to Coach Roberts on his first win as head coach. Logan Smith starts the season with back to back double doubles, collecting 19 points and 10 rebounds while Cale Leitch potted 10 points of his own going 2 for 3 from the three point arch. The boys are back in action Friday when they head to Harrison.
This past weekend, the wrestling team Competed in the Dayton Christian Pool Tournament.  Gavin Boner took home silver at 113 pounds and Sammy Dillon took home gold in the 150-pound weight division.  This weekend, the team will travel to Trenton for the Edgewood Invitational.
