This Saturday on Channel 85, Jon Richter and Grady Holmes will lead the Brave Lacrosse team onto the field for their first matchup of the season versus the Fairfield Indians, I’ll have the call right here on our channel at 2.
Here in broadcast journalism there is nothing we love more than some competition, many of you may remember the pumpkin finding competition competition from last year, unfortunately due to the current situation we cannot have people running around the school punching out roof tiles and looking for pumpkins, however there is a major event coming up in the NCAA basketball world, so this year the THS Daily News will be sponsoring a March Madness Bracket Challenge pool, more on that throughout the rest of this week.

Congratulations to sophomores Lilly Byers, Annmery Katto, and Brooklyn Moore for their presentations to the Oxford Rotary Club on Wednesday, March 3. Each of them shared a personal essay with the club during a remote meeting and were able to connect with local community leaders. The three shared personal stories and impressed the club with their poise and talent. Congratulations again Lilly, Annmery, and Brooklyn!

The academic team lost 2 close exhibitions against Little Miami yesterday the first coming in overtime, now that the SWOC season has come to a close, some accolades were awarded to the team, Jens Bartel was SWOC player of the year and a member of the all conference first team, Paul Bolenbaugh was second team and Michelle Miao was an honorable mention, Daryl Zazycki won the sportsmanship award for the Brave and Coach Schmid was name co-coach of the year.

The THS Media Center has double the number of overdue books due to the remote learning and school closings. We did not have a chance to collect most of the books that were due from the 2019-2020 school year and most of the books that were checked out during the brief face to face weeks in late October and early November 2020. If possible, especially those who are currently attending in person, please return or renew any book you currently have checked out that is overdue.
Seniors, if you ordered graduation announcements they can be picked up in the main office.

The hockey team closed out their season this weekend, on Saturday the Brave defeated Olentangy Orange 6-4, Goon Squad combined for 3 goals and the Shrider boys had 1 each, Niko Amarantos also tacked one on for the Brave, on Sunday the team had their district championship hopes ended by Columbus St. Charles Prep, 2-0 was the final in that one, the Brave finish with a record of 27-8-2 and will look to reload for next season.
This past weekend the swim and dive teams competed at the state championships. Maren Patterson finished in a tie for 21st in her 100 Freestyle and 23rd in her 100 Backstroke. Sam Hool finished in 14th in the 1 Meter Diving Event and the boys’ relay team of Alex Carlson, Blake Madden, Ben Crowder, and Maxx Gregg finished in 22nd place in the 200 Medley. That same foursome also placed 23rd in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The boys finished the meet in 45th place out of the 127 schools in Division 1. This officially concludes the swim and dive season. Congratulations to all members of the teams for another outstanding season.
Gracelyn Steigerwald finished her season 4 pins away from qualifying for state with a 617 series at the district bowling tournament this year she was also the highest SWOC finisher at the meet so congrats to her and the rest of the team on a great season.
This past weekend the wrestling team competed at the sectional meet to close out their year Sammy Dillon was 6th and Nick Engelhard was 5th for the Brave congrats to the team on a great season.
2 big shoutouts today first to Kiefer Bell who finished 9th at the Adidas Nationals mile yesterday with a time of 4:16, and also congrats to junior Deondre Bothast-Revalee who received his first division 1 offer from Dartmouth College.

Seniors, We have extended the deadline for applications for both the Oxford Community Foundation and Talawanda Scholarships until this Thursday, 2/25. You will need to have them turned in to the Guidance Office no later than 3 pm on Thursday. Please allow enough time for anyone writing letters of recommendation for you. You can either request a copy of your transcript through Parchment or if you are in the building you can stop by guidance and get a copy. These do not need to be official so you can make as many copies as you need. Please see Mrs. Roy with any questions.

Boysbababol fell to Walnut Hills on Friday 58-40. Craig James led the way for the Brave droppin 15 on the Owls. Johnny Richter shot 71% from the field, good for 12 points. The boys finish the season with a 7-16 record.
Congrats to a number of swimmers who competed last weekend with hopes of moving on to states, Maren Patterson was the lone qualifier for the girls in the 100 free and 100 back, the relay team of Alex Carlson, Blake Madden, Ben Crowder, and Maxx Gregg qualified in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay and Sam Hool capped it all off for the Brave as he repeated as district diving champion. Congrats to all the swimmers on a great season and good luck to all of them next weekend.
The Hocka team annailated Kilbourne yesterday with the game ending in an 11-1 mercy rule. Andrew Shrider paved the path with a hat trick and James Anzano nipped 2 genos in his first game back from a horrific shoulder boo boo. Other goal scorers were the Amarantos twins with two apiece, and we both scored as well.

Today kicks off Nationals FCCLA Week! What does FCCLA stand for? Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This is Ohio’s 75th year of having FCCLA. Nationally there are 181,353 members, THS chapter has over 181 members.
Each day we are highlighting our FCS/FCCLA Seniors, today we are honoring Jasmine Huntsberry and Linzie Gabbard.

Welcome back everyone, hope you all had a great weekend, and congrats to everyone who signed last week.
A resounding victory for Tom Brady and the Buccaneers came last night in the Super Bowl, 31-9 was the final.
Congratulations to the swim teams for an excellent weekend of swimming at the sectional swim meets. In total the teams recorded 32 season best times this weekend. That allowed both teams to finish in 3rd place at their respective meets. For the boys 8 are moving on to the district meet now led by Ben Crowder who qualified in the 50 Free and 100 Free. Also moving on to the district meet as a part of relays are Alex Carlson, Noah Femiani, Maxx Gregg, Zeke Groom, Blake Madden, Daniel Mullally, and Stephen Mullally. The girls were led by the Patterson sisters as Maren qualified to the district meet in both the 100 Free and 100 Back, while Mercy qualified to the district meet in the 100 Fly. Hannah Lippincott and Kenna Mondello also qualified to the district meet as a part of relays. This Saturday will be the sectional diving meet, where Sam Hool is the heavy favorite to repeat as champion.
The wrestling team finished 5th at the SWOC championships this weekend, in front of Mount Healthy, Nick Engelhard was the SWOC champion at 145 for the Brave, as they will continue their season at the sectional meet in a couple weeks.
The boys basketball team fell to Northwest on Friday by a score of 50-44, Craig James and Jonathan Richter shared the points lead for the Brave with 14 each followed by Jay Reynolds with 9, the team falls to 6-13 on the year and 3-6 in the conference, their next game is tomorrow versus Badin, and their playoff matchup has been set as well, they will play Walnut Hills next Friday in the first round, it will be a 5 pm tip at Lakota West high school.
And the hockey team swept their final home weekend of the season with wins over Olentangy Berlin on Friday, Alter on Saturday, and Owensboro on Sunday, the team will seed for districts this week before heading to their final road trip of the year this weekend in northwest Ohio, their first game will be against Findlay.

The hockey team had a rough weekend going 1-2 over the three days defeating Beavercreek but falling to Upper Arlington and St John’s Jesuit, the team has another big weekend coming up though, with the final homestand of the year beginning with a 7:15 puckdrop vs Olentangy Berlin on Friday.
The boys basketball team split their weekend beginning with a loss 60-46 on Friday night vs Mount Healthy, but rebounding the next day in the exact same score, but flipped, a 60-46 win over Franklin County, 4 players were in double digits on Saturday in the winning effort for the Brave who are now 3-5 in the SWOC and 6-12 overall with their next game coming on Friday vs Northwest.
The girls basketball team defeated Hamilton last night, 50-39 was the final, Eva Motta led the team with 16 points. The girls are now 9-11 on the year, they will play at Ross tomorrow in the regular season finale, and their playoff matchup has been set, the girls will battle the Kings Knights a week from Thursday at Princeton High School in the first round.
This past weekend the swim and dive teams hosted the SWOC Championship meet at Miami University. Congratulations to the boys team for winning their 15th consecutive league championship. En route to winning the championship by nearly 100 points over Ross, the boys went 1-2 in 7 of the 12 events contested. Ben Crowder was named Male Athlete of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year as he set a conference record in the 100 Freestyle. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Ben, Blake Madden, Noah Femiani, and Maxx Gregg also set a conference record as well at the meet. For the girls, they lost a heartbreaker to Ross by just 9 points coming in 2nd place for just the first time in the last 15 years. Maren Patterson led the way for the girls by setting a conference record in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 Medley Relay team of Mercy Patterson, Maren Patterson, Kenna Mondello, and Hannah Lippincott also set a conference record. Both the boys and girls teams will take to the water again this weekend as the state tournament begins with the sectional swim meets. Good luck to both the boys and girls!

The bowling teams both fell to Ross last night, I mixed up my teams yesterday, the boys by a score of 2695-1857, David Harrison led the team with a 339 series, on the girls they dropped the match with a final score of 2178-1747, Jessica Meyers led the Lady Brave with a 309 series. The teams will head into the home stretch of the season next week as they will host the Harrison Wildcats at Oxford Lanes.
Home games this weekend: the boys basketball team will battle the Mount Healthy Owls at 6:30 tonight, the swim teams will go for their 15th straight conference titles at the SWOC championships at the Miami Rec Center tomorrow, and the hockey team will stop off at home to take on the Beavercreek Beavers at 5:15 at the Goggin for the nightcap tomorrow.
