Good Morning Talawanda. Today is Friday, November 22nd, 2019

Freshmen: If you participated in the class fundraiser, orders are in. Please pick up your boxes today anytime! For those who participated, your candy will be delivered on Monday! 

Key Club will be running a Smash Brothers tournament for charity next Tuesday.  Money raised will be donated to the Oxford Food Pantry.  This isn’t a very serious event, so anyone is welcome to participate.  Drinks will be provided.  The cost is 5 dollars at the door.  To sign up, simply write your name on the sheet outside of Z’s room.  New players will be facing other new players in the tournament, and some returning players will receive bys.  For further details, please talk to Eli Walter, Shr-Hua Moore, or Kyle Hoefker.

There is an Environmental and Natural sciences club meeting today in Mrs. Ruther’s room

The School Counseling staff will be offering an informational CCP meeting on December 5 at 5:30 pm in the PAC.  This meeting will provide an overview of the program, how to apply and the deadlines.  Representatives from local universities will be in attendance to provide college specific information. Immediately following this meeting, there will be an informational session regarding the I.T. program that THS offers in conjunction with the University of Cincinnati.

As a part of our Vocational Agriculture program, students have been learning about GMOs.  But what are they?  Can you tell the difference between GMO and non-GMO?  This video was prepared by Productions in conjunction with FFA to give you some more information.

Art Club will meet on Tuesday, November 26th in Mr. Hunsche’s room until 4:00.  We have really enjoyed all the students coming to Art Club and we hope to gain even more artists before the end of the semester.

The hockey team opened their season in front of a huge crowd defeated the Miami Jr. Redhawks by a 4-2 score. Daniel “swiss cheese” Emenaker recorded his first career win and the new twigs worked out for the Shrider boys who each recorded their first career goals for the Brave. They start the year 1-0 and play tonight vs Thomas Worthington.

The field hockey team will be collecting donations of small toys to send to the Dominican Republic, donations can be made inside Mrs. McCartney’s room.

Congrats to 1st year head coach Larry Cox who was named southwest division 2 coach of the year, Dalton Norris was first team defense, and second team honors were given to Luke Richardson, Terrell Wills, Nathan Fox, and Deondre Bothast-Revallee.

Home games for this weekend: The boys basketball team will be hosting Brave Madness beginning at 6:30 tonight, the Varsity scrimmage is scheduled for 8 o’clock tonight. Also tonight the hockey team will host Thomas Worthington at 7:20 tonight at the Goggin, we will livestream it on Brave TV, and you may be in for a big surprise with the announcer tonight. The hockey team will also host Findlay tomorrow at 2:40. Finally tomorrow night at 7 the girls basketball team will host Monroe and if you can’t make it to the gym we’ll be streaming that one live I’ll have the call for you tomorrow night.

The day has arrived.

This Friday the Brave basketball team will be hosting Brave Madness with scrimmages from every team from 7th grade all the way up to the Varsity night cap it will run from 6:30-8:30 tickets will be $4 all proceeds will support the Boys Basketball program.

The field hockey team will be collecting donations of small toys to send to the Dominican Republic for children living in poverty any new or gently used toys of small size will be accepted, the donations can be placed in the box inside Mrs. McCartney’s room, thanks in advance for your generosity.

The day has finally arrived, home games for today: the hockey team will host the Miami Junior Redhawks at 8:40 tonight at the Goggin in their season opener it is a white out so make sure to bring the rage tonight.

2 MORE DAYS

Congratulations to Mary Kate Huddleston, Deidre Payne, John Anzano, and Ben Crowder as last night they were selected by their peers to be captains of the Talawanda Swim and Dive team for the 2019-2020 season.  This season the Brave swimmers and divers will be looking to capture their 14th straight league championship.  How’s that for a dynasty?  The swim & dive season will kick off December 17th at the Miami Rec Center as Talawanda hosts Butler and Wayne high schools in a tri-meet.

3 MORE DAYS

Congrats to the Cross Country teams who closed out their season this weekend at Nike Cross Regionals with great performances across the board, congrats on a great season.

The hockey team closed out their preseason with a weekend split defeating Amherst on Saturday and falling to Strongsville on Sunday, they finish the preseason with a 3-1 record, which will be reset as they begin the regular season at home on Thursday vs Miami at the Goggin at 8:40, that game has been a huge rivalry for a very long time dating back to the Butler County hockey days, so we hope the Tribe can show up in full force on Thursday, it will be a white out.

The hockey team is still selling shirts for $7 Parker Geshan still says you’re lame if you don’t wear one.

Have you ever wanted to be the toughest kid in the school?  Come try wrestling out today after school from 3:00-5:30 and we will make your dream come true.  Last year, Talawanda Wrestling had its first state placer, this year we have added a former state champion and Miami Football player, Cole Jones, to our coaching staff.  Cole wrestled at 220 pounds, went 44-0, and won state his senior year.  You want to learn from the best and become a champion?  Come check it out, all weights welcome, girls as well as boys are encouraged to give it a shot.  Its dub season baby!!!  Pins and wins all day!!!

Good luck to the hockey team this weekend as they will travel to Cleveland to take on Amherst tomorrow and Strongsville on Sunday, and also good luck to the cross country teams who will travel to Indiana State tomorrow to run in the Nike Cross Country Regional Championships against the best competition in the Great Lakes region.

The tournament will be held in room 301, and the entry fee will be 5 dollars when you show up.  80 percent of the money made will be going towards the Oxford food pantry, an organization that helps provide food for those who need it in Oxford.  In addition to the standard tournament that will go on, there will also be multiple areas where you can play the game for fun.  The winner of the tournament will receive a cash prize.  To sign up, go write your name on the sheet outside of room 301. 10 days.

The hockey teams took to the ice for two preseason exhibitions on Saturday they defeated Springboro by a 6-3 score and on Sunday they defeated Olentangy by a 4-2 score Ben Shrider, James Anzano, and Parker Geshan registered their first career points for the Brave this weekend and Daniel Emenaker had his first 2 career starts. The Brave start off preseason 2-0 and they will look to continue that streak on Saturday and Sunday when they will travel to Cleveland to take on Amherst and Strongsville to close out the Preseason.
