Good Morning Talawanda. Today is Thursday, January 16th, 2020

Best Buddies members: our January club meeting will be today after school in room 316. We will have wintery snacks and talk about the semester. New members are always welcome!

Talawanda’s unofficial film club is looking for new members.  Do you want to be an actor, filmmaker, or screenwriter?  If you do, then join and they’ll produce your films.  The first meeting for new members is this Saturday.  To join, contact Peter Averbach at his email or speak to him in person.

Those interested in playing boys tennis this spring there will be a short informational meeting in room 310 after school on Tuesday the 21st.  If you can not make the meeting see Mr. Thomas in room 310.  No prior tennis experience required.

Lists are now posted outside the guidance office of those students who have qualified for the 2nd quarter honor roll recognition.  It will be Thursday, January 23.

And now for What’s the T and Luke WP

The academic challenge team snapped Little Miami’s 46 match SWOC winning streak by sweeping the Panthers 75-70 and 91-74. This improves their record to 8-0 Daryl Zazycki, Jens Bartel and Paul Bolenbaugh had great matches.  Shr-Hua Moore performance in yesterday’s match makes him the favorite for SWOC player of the year.

The Talawanda Varsity Wrestling team lost to Mason last night with a score of 56-24 bringing their team dual record to 2-1 on the season. While the Brave lost as a team, several wrestlers proved to be victorious against the Comets. Logan Crauder, Julian Askren, Terell Wills, and Nathon Detherage all recorded wins in their matches. There was also some JV action last night against both Colerain and Mason. Joseph Claire, Charlie Cooper, and Kyle Schlabach all won their matches. This weekend the team will be competing in two separate tournaments. The JV will travel to Ross High School and the Varsity will travel to Sycamore high school.

The girls basketball team defeated Franklin County last night by a score of 37-32 Sophie Pohlabel had 13 points and Kyra Koontz had 12. The girls team improves to 3-9 on the year and will play this Saturday against Stivers.

The news has a new feature. We will be doing an athletics podcast called the B and B podcast, searchable on Spotify, Here’s some more information.

Sophomore swimmer Hannah Lippincott is up for Cinci athlete of the week you can vote for her on the Cinci high school sports page.

The girls bowling team fell to Edgewood last night by a score of 1574-1385 they fall to 0-10 on the year. The boys won by a 2533-1676 score they improve to 6-5 on the year, and both bowling teams will head to Harrison to face the Wildcats on Thursday.

The boys basketball team dominated Union County last night eventually winning by a score of 69-32, Craig James had 30 points and Jonathan Richter had 15. The boys improve to 3-9 on the season and will travel to Badin on Saturday.

Home games for today: Ac Chal hosts Little Miami at 4, and girls basketball will host Franklin County JV at 4:30 Varsity at 7. Finally we would like to wish luck to the wrestling team who will head to a Tri meet at Mason tonight.

The girls bowling team both to Mount Healthy the girls by a 1819-807 score the boys defeated the Owls by a 2263-1827 score they both play today at Oxford Lanes vs Edgewood.

The girls basketball team fell to Taylor by a 54-50 score they fall to 2-9 on the season. Their next game is tomorrow vs Franklin County.

Home games for today: the bowling teams will host Edgewood at 4 and the boys basketball team will host Union County JV at 6, Varsity at 7:30 it will be a camo country out.

Congrats to girls basketball head coach Mary Jo Huismann on her 700th career victory the game was a 42-31 win over Ross Kylee Fears had 14 points and they improve to 2-8 on the year and 2-4 in the conference. Their next game is tonight vs Taylor.

The boys basketball team fell to Ross by a 52 to 35 score they fall to 1-5 in the SWOC and 2-9 overall their next game is at home tomorrow vs Union County.

Friday the Brave swim teams headed to Hamilton for a tri-meet with Hamilton and Ross.  Both the girls and the boys came away with sweeps.  The girls meet was highlighted by a thrilling come from behind victory from Hannah Lippincott in the 200 Free, in which she lowered her season best time by 6 seconds.  Later on that meet Hannah also placed third in the 500 Free, where she had a career best time by 5 seconds.  The boys meet was highlighted by Rhyan Meyers and Ben Crowder both winning two events and Blake Madden, John Anzano, and Luke Liang all winning one apiece.

The hockey team defeated Beavercreek by a 5-1 score and Bowling Green by an 8-5 score they improve to 20-2-1 on the season and 6-0 in the SWOHSHL. They will head to Columbus this weekend to play in the highly competitive Pioneer Classic.

Home games for today: the girls basketball team will host Taylor JV at 6 Varsity at 7:30.

Now for today’s birthdays, Olivia Woodruff turns 17 and Elizabeth Phillips turns 18. Happy Birthday.

And now for What’s the T and Luke WP

Last night the swim and dive teams hosted Harrison and Fairfield in a tri-meet at the rec center.  The girls came away with the tri-meet sweep besting Fairfield by a score of 162 to 59 and beating Harrison by a 162 to 89 score.  On the boys side, Harrison was easily outdistanced by a score of 131 to 19.  However, Fairfield came away with a narrow victory over the Brave men by a score of 143 to 131.  Leading the Brave women were the Patterson sisters as both Mercy and Maren picked up a pair of individual event wins.  Also picking up individual event wins for the Brave women were Kenna Mondello, Mary Kate Huddleston, and Addie Lehman.  For the men, Ben Crowder lead the way with two individual event wins and Sam Hool also secured an individual event win.  The Brave swim teams are back in action tonight as they travel to Hamilton for a tri-meet with Hamilton and Ross.  Action begins at 4:30 PM at the Fitton Family YMCA.

The girls bowling team fell to Little Miami by a 1735 to 1555 score they fall to 0-8 on the season and 0-4 in the conference. The boys team fell to Little Miami 2546 to 2311 they fall to 0-4 in the conference and 4-5 overall. Both bowling teams will head to Mount Healthy on Monday to face the owls.

The hockey team defeated Elder last night by a 7-0 score they improve to 18-2-1 on the year and 5-0 in the SWOHSHL, they play next tonight against Beavercreek on the road.

Home games for this weekend: the boys basketball team will host Ross Freshmen at 4:30, JV at 6, Varsity at 7:30 we hope to see you there tonight for the white out tonight. Tomorrow the girls basketball team will host Ross JV at 1, Varsity at 2:30, and finally the hockey team will host Bowling Green tomorrow at 5:10 and after the game they will be hosting a Skate with the Brave event where anyone can skate with the team, getting on the ice is free skate rental will be $3.50.

A reminder to all lacrosse players the parent meeting will be January 13 at 6:30 in Mr. Johnson’s room.

The academic challenge team swept Mt. Healthy last night by scores of 81-20 and 78-16.  The JV team also defeated Mt. Healthy’s varsity team 50-18.  The team is back in action next Wednesday against Little Miami, in a match, that will likely decide who wins the league title. 

Home games for today: bowling will host Little Miami at 4, and the hockey team will host conference foe Elder at 8:40 tonight at Goggin it’s a camo out to support seal team 6.

 Attention seniors, as scholarship season ramps up over the next two months, please be sure to keep track of any scholarship offers that you receive from all universities that you’ve been accepted into. The Guidance Office needs this information as part of the graduation process. Please report these scholarship offers to Mrs. Roy and be sure to note whether it’s a one-time scholarship or a renewable offer. If you have any questions about applying for scholarships, please be sure to see your school counselor!

There were lots of events over the break so let’s get right into it.

The girls basketball team went 1-2 over the break so they are now 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the SWOC. Their next game is Thursday at Lockland.

The boys basketball team went 1-4 over the break they picked up their second win of the year over Miami Valley School. They are now 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference. They play tonight at home versus Northwest be on the lookout for a student section theme.

The hockey team went 6-0-1 over the break highlights for the Brave included winning the Kent Roosevelt tournament in overtime versus Hudson and Jackson “Byrdman” Byrd scoring 2 goals in a 9-2 win over Kenston, the Brave are now 17-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the SWOHSHL. They play next at home versus Elder on Thursday and they will also host Bowling Green on Saturday night and there will be a free skating event with the team afterwards.

Home games for today: the boys basketball team hosts Northwest Freshmen at 4:30, JV at 6, and Varsity at 7:30.

Home games for this weekend: girls basketball will host Little Miami at 2:30 tomorrow, also good luck to the boys basketball team who will head to Colerain, good luck to the hockey team who will face Alter tomorrow, and good luck to the wrestling team who will be at the Edgewood invite this weekend.

The girls basketball team fell to Valley View yesterday by a 63-32 score they fall to 0-4 on the year and their next game is Saturday vs Little Miami.

The Ac Chal team swept Susan Charls and the Harrison Wildcats yesterday with wins by the JV team and the Varsity team who defeated Harrison by scores of 83-43 and 93-45 they are 4-0 and tied for first in the league and their next match is Wednesday at Mount Healthy.
