Good Morning Talawanda. Today is Monday, April 5th, 2021.

Would you like to help a new student adapt to THS?  We are bringing back the ambassador program to match current students with new students.  Applications are available in the counseling office or online on the counseling website.

FCCLA will be hosting the spring Blood Drive to be held on Friday April 16th, 7:30-11:30.  You must be 16 years old to donate. Pick up forms from the office, room 611, outside room 611 and at lunch.

And now for a message about getting help preparing for prom, followed by sports with Goon Squad

Welcome back kids and coaches, lets go ahead and break these sports down from a fundamental stand point.

The bracket challenge placers remained unchanged as we head into the championship game. Brayden Shiflett and Caleb Bogseth are still holding onto their first and second place positions, but if Gonzaga wins Andrew Shrider will move into 1st place.

The baseball team improved their record to 4-1 over the weekend knocking off Batavia 5-0, Goshen 10-0 and then falling to Milford on Saturday by a score of 8-4. Brennyn Bell-Bucher is leading the team with a .750 average through the teams first 5 games.

The softball team went 3-0 over the weekend outscoring their opponents 53-11.  Hitting 4 dingers in the proccess, Rachel Dsuban with 2 kaelyn wright with 1 and Hailey Mcdade with 1.

The lax bro’s got a big upset victory @Beavercreek on Saturday with a final score of 16-14 after an explosion of 9 goals in the 3rd quarter and stellar goaltending by Craig Catania with 15 saves on the day to push the Brave to their first 5-1 start in program history.

The tennis team is back in action tonight @Lakota East starting at 4pm.

Oxford Community Parks is looking for volunteers to help with their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday April 3rd.  Volunteers would need to arrive by 9 and would be done by noon.  If you are interested reach out to Ryan Himes (rhimes@cityofoxford.org) and Emily Sollenberger (esollenberger@cityofoxford.org).

Welcome back kids and coaches, happy opening day 2021.

The bracket challenge placers remained unchanged as we head into the final four Brayden Shiflett and Caleb Bogseth are still holding onto their first and second place positions.

The baseball team knocked off Monroe to improve to 2-0 on the year, Parker Geshan had 2 RBI and the win on the hill for the Brave, Niko Amarantos is tied with him for the SWOC lead in RBI as well he had 1 in the game on Tueday night.

The softball team run ruled Colerain on Tuesday, 19-2 was the final with the Brave coming out on top Mckenna Weekley pitched a a complete game and Rachel Dsuban went yard on the offensive side, the Brave improve to 3-1 on the year.

The lacrosse team blew out Franklin last night, scoring 18 goals and conceding just 2, Nick Engelhard, Brendan Bohon and Grady Holmes all put 4 on the board for the Brave in the winning effort, the lacrosse team is now 4-1 on the season.

The tennis team kept their undefeated streak going with a 5-0 sweep against Colerain last night, their next match tonight against St. Xavier B.

The track teams hosted a tri on Tuesday with Northwest and Eaton, there were many victories on the track, including a sweep of all distance events on the girls side and wins in the 1600 and 400 on the boys, in the field the Brave took home many wins as well with sweeps of the pole vault, high jump, and triple jump wins came on the girls side in both throwing events as well, the Brave were initially scheduled to race today, but that has been cancelled due to weather and will not be rescheduled, their next meet will come at home on Tuesday.

Home games this weekend: the softball team will host 3 games, beginning with a 5pm start against Finneytown tonight, and a doubleheader versus Monroe starting tomorrow at 10, the baseball team will host Goshen tomorrow and Milford on Saturday after a trip to Batavia today, tomorrow’s game will start at 5 and Saturday has first pitch set for 1.

Now for a critical analysis of Zachetology followed by sports with Luke West Poley

Brayden Shiflett has moved up to first in the bracket challenge after night 1 of the elite eight and Caleb Bogseth has fallen to second, also Mr. Rhoton has moved his way up to third, as the elite eight will come to a close tonight with the final 2 games.

The softball team knocked off Hamilton last night by a 5-3 score they improve to 2-1 on the year, and will finish a back to back of road games today at Colerain, with first pitch scheduled for 5.

The boys tennis team started their season off on the right foot last night with a 4-1 win over Fenwick, their next match will be tomorrow at Colerain.

The lacrosse team suffered their first regular season loss of the year last night at Chaminade Julienne, 16-13 was the final, Grady Holmes led the team with 7 goals and Craig Catania had 9 saves in the losing effort, they fall to 3-1 on the year and their next game will be tomorrow at Franklin.

Kiefer Bell is up for athlete of the week this week, so make sure to vote for him on the Cincinnati Enquirer’s high school sports page, also good luck to the rest of team as well as they will host the Talawanda Brave Invite tonight starting at 4:30.

Also good luck to the baseball team tonight at Monroe, Parker Geshan will be on the mound for the Brave at 5.

Now for sports with Luke West Poley

Welcome back everyone, hope you all had a great break, in the bracket challenge currently in second place is Brayden Shiflett, and Productions’ own Caleb Bogseth is in first, there’s still time to catch up though the elite eight will begin tonight.

The baseball team opened up their regular season with a 6-1 win over the Fenwick Falcons on Saturday, they’ve got a big week coming up with a four game set starting with a 5 pm start tomorrow at Monroe.

The softball team opened their regular season with a split against Mount Notre Dame this weekend, the first game was a 3-0 win for the Brave, the second a 6-3 loss, they also have a big week coming up, beginning with a trip to Hamilton to play the Big Blue at 5 o’clock tonight.

The track teams opened their season this weekend also at the Harrison Wildcat opener, there were numerous event wins on both sides for the Brave with the boys coming out with a second place finish and the girls with a 3rd, the track team will host the Talawanda Brave Invitational tomorrow night.

The lacrosse team swept their games over the break starting with a 21-1 road blowout over Xenia, then back at home a 22-2 victory over Taylor, and finally a 19-16 win over Monroe, Grady Holmes led the team with 20 goals over that stretch, Brendan Bohon had 13, and Ben Shrider is undefeated in net, the Brave will continue their season tonight as they will head to Dayton to battle Chaminade Julienne.

The baseball team fell in a scrimmage last night to Taylor by a 4-3 score, Parker Geshan had fence level power in that one, the team has two more scrimmages before starting the regular season up next week, the first of which will be a road trip to Roger Bacon Saturday and the latter the preseason finale at home versus Sycamore on Wednesday.

Congrats to senior swimmers Maxx Gregg, Ben Crowder, and Blake Madden on being named to the academic all america team.

Also the softball team had a great showing on both sides of the ball in their scrimmage against Preble Shawnee yesterday, they will continue their season at Chaminade Julienne on Monday.

Make sure to buy a Talawanda Hope bracket at lunch today, it is the last lunch where they will be available, you can also purchase one in Z’s room tomorrow during 4th period, so make sure to pick up yours today they only cost $1 and there are a couple great prizes at stake, so make sure to fill out a bracket today.

The baseball team fell in their opening scrimmage to Fairfield, 6-2 was the final on Saturday, they will continue preseason action tomorrow in a scrimmage at Taylor.

The lax bros dropped their first scrimmage of the year to Fairfield on Saturday, the final in that one was 22-13, leading scorers for the Brave were Grady Holmes with 5 and Ben Shrider and Brendan Bohon with 3 each, they will open up their regular season this Friday as they will head to Xenia.
