Good Morning, Talawanda. Today is Monday, January 28, 2019

Setting Stone will meet today, after school, in Mr. Aerni’s room. We will discuss the February Coffee House and begin brainstorming ideas for Setting Stone’s print magazine.

Anyone who is interested in being a part of the Spring Musical should attend the informational meeting after school today from 3-4pm in the THS PAC. There will be a short meeting about the show, crew information, and upcoming auditions. If you can’t attend, please contact Miss Hudson.

Best Buddies members; Our first meeting of the semester will be tomorrow right after school in Room 316. Our meeting will end by 3 pm and we will discuss plans for our upcoming spring social

Any students interested in learning more about the environment and natural sciences are invited to meet with the new THS Environment and Natural Sciences Club in room 423 at 2:45 today. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Ruther or Rita Zhou-Wang.

Attention NHS members: We will meet after school on Thursday, January 31 above the media center. We’ll take our club yearbook photo and begin planning our charity volleyball tournament

Oxford Parks and Recreation will be visiting Lunch this Tuesday to pass out information on summer jobs. There will be info on lifeguarding, camp leaders, and front gate/concession stand workers. They will be available to answer any questions and have applications for anyone who wants to apply.

Any senior who is interested in the Ohio Operating Engineer Apprenticeship program should pick up an application packet from their school counselor. Applications are being accepted January 28-30 and February 7-9. Apprentices in this program earn $18 an hour in their first year and will earn $29 an hour by year four. Again, for more information about this or other apprenticeship programs, please see your counselor. 

Any junior or senior who would like to attend Butler Tech’s apprenticeship day on February 10th, please see Mr. Phelps in room 518 for more information. This field trip will allow you to listen to a panel discussion and have conversations with electricians, sheet metal workers, construction laborers, and many other professions.

Attention all seniors, your senior pictures are due to Mr. Zimmerman by March 1st.  If you still haven’t bought a yearbook, please go to www.jostens.com to order yours today.

Seniors- The Talawanda Local Scholarship and The Oxford Community Scholarship Books are both now available. They have been sent to your school email, posted on our website and are also available in the guidance office. Transcripts for these scholarships do not need to be official so you will be given one copy of your transcript and you can duplicate as needed. All applications are due back to guidance Wednesday, February 20th by the end of school. The Oxford Community Foundation and the Talawanda local have different requirements so please read directions carefully. See Mrs.Roy in the guidance office with any questions.

Diversity club invites everyone to attend the anti-Islamophobia workshop in the media center tomorrow, Tuesday the 29th after school. It will be led by guest speaker Melina Gonzalez, who will share with us her experience of working with Syrian refugees in Germany. Come to learn about how we can be better neighbors and friends to Muslim Americans.

And now for What’s The T and Patty G.

The boy’s basketball team picked up their First win of the season on Saturday night at Franklin County by a commanding score of 72-47.  Craig James led the Brave with 20 points and Jonathan Richter had 16. So congratulations to the boy’s team who improves to 1-15 overall.   

On Saturday, the Girls Basketball team fell to  Mt. Healthy at home by a score of 42-31.  Jazz Bennett led Talawanda with 13 points. 

Friday night the Brave Swim and Dive teams hosted Little Miami and Hagerstown, IN in a tri-meet. Both the boys and girls teams came away with sweeps at the meet. It was a special night for the Brave as they said goodbye to their seven seniors — Rory Adryan, Olivia Baker, Rosadean Elliott, Alessandra Manuakian, Arthur de Boer, Casey Johnston, and Sean Mondello. Also swimming well at the meet were Asya Walsh and Tatyanna Whalen, who completed their first 500 Free, Max Baker, who completed his first 200 IM, and Julia Caudill, who completed her first 100 fly. The Brave are in the water this Saturday night at the SWOC Championships at the Rec Center. The action begins at 6.

The hockey team went 1-1 on the weekend with a 5-0 win vs. Centerville on the road Friday, and Saturday night the Brave fell on home ice to St. X by a score of 4-1. They’ll have senior night coming up this weekend at Goggin.

This week, the Talawanda wrestling team competed at the Eaton Individual. Clayton Detherage went 4-3 earning 6th place, with Sean Mondello and Terell Wills both taking 1st. They both went 4-0 with 4 pins. In Wills’ final match, he pinned the 11th ranked wrestler in the state from Ross. The Brave will have their senior night this Thursday against Madison and Wilmington. They’ll take on Fairfield too who is the 2nd ranked team in Cincinnati.
