Miami University Hamilton will be hosting their annual regional college fair on September 19 from 6:30-8 pm.  100+ colleges and universities will be in attendance.  There will also be Financing Your Education seminar from 6-6:30 before the college fair begins.  More information can be found at MiamiOH.edu/regionals/college-fair

A national college fair will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center on September 23 from 1-4pm.  Admission representatives from schools across the country will be gathered here to help answer your questions.  Register for free at www.gotomyncf.com to receive fair details, avoid lines onsite, and share your contact information with your choice schools.

Miami University is proud to present the Bridges Program, an overnight visit experience for high-achieving high school seniors from historicallyy underrepresented populations or who have a commitment to promoting a deeper understanding an appreciation for diversity.  Students representing different enthic/racial, sexual orientation and gender identity, and socioeconomic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  Visit miamioh.edu/admission/high-school/bridges/ for more information.  The application deadline is September 24.

Students interested in traveling to Italy and Greece with Ms. Mann and Mr. Tincher in June 2019 should attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 (immediately after parent/teacher conferences) in room 319.  Hope to see you there!

Good luck to Josh Niehoff and Jacob Williams, as well as recent graduated Eric Glaab and Jacob Schulte this Thursday to Sunday in Massachusetts at Eastern States FFA Competition.  They are representing Ohio in the competition in Nursery and Lanscaping.  This is the first time Talawanda FFA has represented Ohio in this competition, and these men earned tho spot by finishing 3rd in the State last March.

Congratulations to Setting Stone for earning a Gold Medal rating for their recent print magazine from the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association.  Setting Stone members can check out the full critique on the Setting Stone Classroom.

Are you interested in joining the debate team?  Come to the after school meeting today in the cafeteria, from 2:30-4:30.

Anyone interested in learning more about the club, “Girls Who Code,” an organization that promotes computer programming and coding skills, please see Miss Klovekorn in room 220 or Mrs. Caraballo in room 218.  No experience necessary!

The THS Homecoming dance almost here.  Homecoming tickets will be on sale during all lunch periods starting Friday, September 14 through Friday, September 21.  Tickets are $15 per person.  The homecoming dance is Saturday, September 22 from 8pm to 11pm in the Talawanda High School Gymnasium.  Note, if a student plans to bring an outside guest, tickets and permission slips must be purchased in the main office.

Any 9-12th grader who has completed an act of volunteerism and would like to be considered for a thousand dollar cash prize is encouraged to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  The application can be found at spirit.prudential.com and is due by November 6th.  Talawanda will have one local winner who will be considered for the state award, and a trip for themselves and a parent or guardian to Washington, DC this spring for a 4-day recognition ceremony.

Attention current NHS seniors: We will meet in Ms. Alfonsi’s room right after school today.  Be there!

And now for world news and Patty G with sports.

The boys varsity and JV golf teams brought back two more wins for Talawanda on Wednesday.  The varsity round was a study in consistency, with all four top competitors shooting a score of 43, to defeat Ross 172 to 182.  Varsity is now 10 & 0 overall and 8 and 0 in the conference.  For the JV team, medalist Dylan Slager led the way to a 179 to 207 victory. He was unable to break 40 on the day, but did manage to break the fence following his round of 41. The JV record now stands at 10 & 1 overall; and they, too, are undefeated with an 8 & 0 record.

The girls golf team fell to Harrison yesterday by a score of 212 to 242 at Oxford Country Club. Ella Cope shot her first ever par on the round. The Braves record is now 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

And the girls soccer team also beat Edgewood last night  — they won at home by a score of 3-0. Kyra Koontz netted two goals for talawanda and Ainsley Clark added another. The Lady Braves are 3-2-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the SWOC. They’re at Northwest on Thursday.

And the girls tennis team lost in another close one to Hamilton at home last night. 3-2 was the final score notching the Braves overall record at 4 and 8. They will play at Ross today in another conference match.

Home games for today: Boys JV and Varsity Soccer take on Northwest in the quest for a 3 peat. JV kicks of at 5, Varsity at 7.
