Good morning Talawanda, today is Friday, October 15th, 2021.

Hey, THS—the first Setting Stone Coffee House of the school year will be held on November 5th! If you are interested in performing, sign-ups will start next Tuesday! We are looking for musicians, bands, poets, comedians…really, any performance art! Sign up next week on the sheet outside of Mr. Aerni’s room (#320).

Reminder: current and prospective baseball players should report for work at the field tomorrow from 12-4pm. 

Please check Twitter tomorrow morning—weather may make plans impossible, in which case we will pick it up on Tuesday (details to come).

Are you interested in competing for the Talawanda Swim and Dive Team this year?  If so, please plan to attend the preseason meeting next Tuesday, October 19th.  The meeting will be at 7 PM here in the cafeteria.  At the meeting you will be able to meet the coaches, obtain practice and meet schedules, and learn what the expectations are to be a part of the team.  If you can’t make the meeting please see Coach Pasquale in Room 418.

The volleyball team dropped their final game of the regular season last night to Ross in 5 sets, they finish with a record of 15-7 on the season and 7-3 in the conference, with a matchup at Oak Hills set for next Thursday in the postseason.

The boys soccer team was defeated by Ross 3-0 yesterday, the team finishes with a SWOC record of 8-2 good enough for second place, they will host West Clermont in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday.

The girls soccer team lost to Ross in their final conference game of the year last night 5-2, their record now stands at 5-8-1 on the year with one final regular season game on the schedule against Princeton tomorrow.

Home games: the football team will host Mount Healthy at 7, pending weather, bring rain gear and support the team, additionally the girls soccer team will host Princeton at 3 tomorrow and the cross country teams will host the SWOC championships, with race action beginning at 9 tomorrow morning.

Believe it or not there were no events last night for the Brave but tonight is packed.

Home games: the volleyball team will host their senior night against Ross, JV-B at 4:30, JV at 5:45 and Varsity at 7, the girls soccer team will also host Ross in their final home game of the year JV at 5, Varsity at 7, and good luck to the boys soccer team who will travel to Ross for a matchup with the Rams tonight with a SWOC championship on the line at 7, additionally there will be free food at the volleyball game tonight and both that game and the girls soccer game will have free admission for students.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Wednesday, October 13th, 2021.

Any 9th – 12th grade boy interested in playing basketball must have their completed athletic physical on file BEFORE tryouts on Oct 29th and 30th. To sign up and get more information about tryout times, see Coach Davie in the school counseling office. An updated list of tryout participants is located outside of his office. If your name is not on that list, you need to speak with Coach right away!

The girls corner kick team defeated Northwest last night 2-0, the girls are now 2-3-1 in the conference and will play their final SWOC game of the year against the outright champion Ross Rams Thursday.

Also the powderpuff event next Wednesday schedule has been announced, T-Shirt pass out will begin at 6, with the athletes needing to arrive for games beginning at 7.

The field hockey team lost to Kettering Fairmont in their final regular season game last night.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, October 11th, 2021.

There’s an Ice Hockey meeting for any interested players tomorrow at 8:00pm in the PAC.

The Spirit War continues this week with lots of opportunities to earn points for your class. The seniors continue to lead followed closely by the sophomores and juniors.  Freshmen are far behind.  Put your spirit on and attend some home events.

Best Buddies will have their October meeting on Thursday, October 14 right after school in Room 316. The meeting will end at 3:30. New members are welcome to join us

The football team fell to Edgewood 49-14 on Friday night, Cale Leitch and DJ Morris-Williams each threw for a touchdown in the effort, the team is now 1-6 on the year will host the penultimate matchup of the season on Friday versus Mount Healthy.

The field hockey team split the weekend to pick up their first win of the season, on Saturday the team fell to Dublin Coffman 2-0, but on Sunday the team bounced back with a 1-0 victory at Miami against Walnut Hills, the team will have their final game of the regular season tonight at Kettering Fairmont.

The boys soccer team came up with a huge road victory against Hamilton on Saturday 2-1, the team has now won 9 of 10 coming into the last week of the season, the team will host Winton Woods tonight.

Also this weekend there were a few tournament draws for postseason play, the matchups are set for volleyball who will play Oak Hills in round 1, boys soccer who will play West Clermont, and girls soccer who will face Middletown.

Home games: the boys soccer team will host Winton Woods, JV at 5, Varsity at 7.

The volleyball team defeated Northwest on the road last night, their record improves to 15-1 on the season and will head to Badin for one final non-conference match on Monday.

The field hockey team fell to Indian Hill yesterday, the team will host the Shamrocks of Dublin Coffman tomorrow.

The boys soccer team knocked off Mount Healthy 5-0 last night, Logan Kent had a natural hat trick for the Brave followed up by goals from Anton Mueller and Stephen Mullally, the team is now 8-3-1 on the year and 8-1 in the SWOC with a non-conference battle against the Hamilton Big Blue set for tomorrow at noon.

Leah Noga and McKenzie Hanson are up for Cincinnati Enquirer athlete of the week this week today is the final day to vote so make sure to show your support on the Enquirer’s high school sports page.

Home games: the field hockey teams host Dublin Coffman tomorrow, JV at 3:30, varsity at 5, also good luck to the football team who has their third week of SWOC action at Edgewood tonight at 7, and good luck to the tennis team who is competing at sectionals today.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Thursday, October 7th, 2021.

Attention, second-year NHS members:  please attend ONE of the following after school meetings: either today or Monday, October 11 after school in Ms. Alfonsi’s room (room 315). 

Seniors in English classes at Talawanda should have put their signature on a blank index card today in class.  If you did not, please see Mr. Zimmerman in room 301.  The yearbook for this year will be including all the senior signatures on the back of the book, so if you don’t get yours into the yearbook staff you won’t be included.  If you don’t feel comfortable handing in yours into the school, this is not required, just something cool they are trying to offer for students.

And now Andrew Averbach does a surprise interview with Ms. Alfonsi to test out his ‘ambush journalism’ skills.

The volleyball team continued to roll last night with a 4-set road win over the Edgewood Cougars, the team is now 14-5 on the season and will close out their road trip tonight against Northwest.

The boys golf team finished 5th at the Sectional Tournament yesterday, congrats to the team on a great year and congrats to Ty Huber who extended his season by qualifying for districts next week.

The girls soccer team dominated Winton Woods 7-0 yesterday, the team is now 4-7-2 on the year and will head to Northwest on Tuesday.

Today is the third day of FCCLA Awareness Week, and it’s PJ day! Did you know that there are over 165 students in FCS/FCCLA this year so far….. THS FCCLA offers a variety of service projects for the students throughout the year. One of the popular ones is coming up, December 3rd will be our first blood drive of the year. Info will be coming out soon! Tomorrow is Cancer Awareness day please wear a color to represent a cancer that has affected you!  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so you can wear Pink to support those who have or are fighting that fight.

It was a good day yesterday.

The volleyball team defeated Mount Healthy in straight sets last night on the road to improve their record to 13-5 on the season and 5-2 in the SWOC, 4 games are left on the schedule starting with a bout with Edgewood tonight.

The boys soccer team knocked off Northwest on senior night 2-1, both goals were put in on free kicks by Zeke Nates, the team continues their dominance over SWOC opponents now standing at a record of 7-1 in conference with the next foe being Mount Healthy tomorrow.

The girls golf team concluded their season at the sectional tournament yesterday, Keylee Goerss was the top scorer for the Brave with a round of 94, congrats to the girls on a great season.

Also congrats to the girls JV soccer team who defeated Mount Healthy on the road yesterday.

Home games: none, but good luck to the boys golf team who looks to extend their season and the sectional tournament today.

Talawanda High School won a 2021 College Success Gold Award from GreatSchools.org, this award recognizes high schools for preparing kids for college and beyond. Congrats to us.

From October 2nd to October 15, Talawanda Hope is sponsoring class spirit wars. Show your school spirit by going to Home Athletic Games, you win points for you class! The most spirited class will get Halloween candy during tutorial. Show your school spirit and support your classmates at home athletic events.

People interested in playing in the Powderpuff football tournament, sign-ups for each class are posted outside room 301 in the rotunda. The cost is $15 for the team shirts, make sure you pick up your liability form when you sign up and turn it in by Friday, October 8th to room 301 to confirm your spot!  The games will take place Wednesday, October 20th starting at 6pm.  The football players for each class will be responsible for coaching up the girls for your team and everyone is invited to come watch.

The girls soccer team fell to Dayton Carroll 5-3 last night, they are now 3-7-1 on the year and will have the second game of their road trip of 3 tomorrow at Winton Woods.

The tennis team fell to Middletown Madison last night 3-2, their record falls to 9-10 on the season, and they will have their final match of the season next Monday at Fairfield.

Home games: the boys soccer team holds senior night tonight against Northwest, JV at 5, varsity at 7, it’s a white out if you’re heading to the field tonight additionally I’ll have the call as we will stream the game live here on Channel 85, also good luck to the girls golf team who competes at the sectional tournament at Walden Ponds today.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, October 4th, 2021.

Today is the first day of FCCLA Awareness Week so what is FCCLA?  Family, Career and Community Leaders of America with 7,500 Ohio members and over 160,000 Nationally.

After school lifting for Monday, October 4 is cancelled. 

Congratulations to the FFA urban soils team who got 4th in the district and qualified for the state judging contest next Saturday.  Go Aggies!

Fall sports are in full swing, but it is never too early to think about our winter sports.  In honor of our wrestling team, here is Norah and Kadience doing their best wrestler impressions.

The football team lost to Ross on the road on Friday 41-20, the team is now 1-5 on the year and 0-2 in the SWOC and will head to Edgewood on Friday.

The volleyball team picked up a big upset win in 4 sets over Oak Hills on Saturday, the team has now won 10 of their last 11 and will host Preble Shawnee tonight.

The girls soccer team defeated Eaton on senior night on Saturday, 6-4, junior Rylyn Jackson had a hat trick in the winning effort for the Brave who are now 3-6-1 overall, the girls will head to Dayton to face Carroll tonight.

The cross country teams headed to Centerville to compete at the Saturday Night Lights invitational on Saturday, the girls team placed 9th in the Varsity A division and Hannah Lippincott was 27th as an individual in the championship race, for the boys, they came away with a 13th place finish in the championship race led by Kiefer Bell who finished second. Both cross country teams will have the week off before hosting the SWOC championships next Saturday.

Home games: the field hockey teams will host Mount Notre Dame, JV at 5, Varsity at 6:30, and the volleyball teams will host Preble Shawnee JV at 5:45 and Varsity at 7.
