Good morning Talawanda, today is Wednesday, November 17th, 2021.

Best Buddies members: our November meeting is this Thursday after school in Mrs. Sammons’s room until 3:30pm. We may have a special guest and we will have a fun Thanksgiving craft! New members are always welcome. 

The Chili Supper is tonight in the THS Cafeteria! Food service begins at 6:00 pm. The Jazz and Steel Bands will perform starting at 7:00 pm. This is a fun event and we are glad to be holding it again this year. Little kids are welcome. They can dance or run around and it will not be a problem.

Saturday, November 20th, at 1pm in Benton Hall, Miami’s Girls Who Code president will have a 20 minute presentation on experience as a cyber software intern, statistics on women in computer science, and proposed solutions to increase female representation. The Miami Girls Who Code chapter meets weekly on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm. For more information, email prentoam@miamioh.edu.

Talawanda Baseball is looking for enthusiastic and responsible students to announce home varsity baseball games this spring. If you are interested in being a part of the team, please see Coach Lykins for more details!

Butler-Tech/Talawanda FCCLA is sponsoring a winter Blood Drive on December 3rd. Give the gift of life and save up to 3 lives per donation. If you donate 3 times in your high school career, you will receive cords at graduation and every donation earns a free t-shirt! There are only 80 slots available, so sign up soon to save your spot! Students, the first blood drive of the year is Friday December 3rd.  If you are 16 years old or older you are able to donate!  If you donate at least 3 times in your high school career you will receive red cords for graduation PLUS you will save at least 9 lives!  Please pick up forms in the office, outside room 611 or at lunch- when you turn in your signed form you will be able to select your time to donate.

If you’ve ever wondered if you can drive a stick shift, you can’t. Andrew Averbach learns how to drive a stick shift in this new video by Logan Murray.

Do you like Chick-fil-A?  Why not be part of the Chick-fil-A leadership academy?  We will have our first informational meeting on Thursday November 18th, please sign up outside the office, we need to know how much chick-fil-a to order and your t-shirt size for a free shirt.  You will be learning valuable leadership skills and working on a service learning project for the year.  

Key Club and Best Buddies are partnering to collect NEW, UNOPENED boxes of cereal for the Oxford Food Pantry NOW through December 9. The goal is to collect 500 boxes of cereal to create a giant hallway dominoes on December 9. Cereal boxes can be turned in to Room 316 or the front office. Any student who turns in a box to room 316 between now and Wednesday, November 17 will receive a piece of candy and be entered into a raffle for a $10 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card. Each box of cereal is one raffle entry!

Congrats to select members of the football team who were announced as all conference last night, Deondre Bothast-Revalee was first team along with DJ Morris Williams, Hayden Marcum, Owen King and Joe Claire were named to second team, Nick Engelhard was honorable mention and John Nelson was a recipient of the sportsmanship award, congrats to all of them on a great season.

The hockey team concluded their preseason this weekend with a trip to Cleveland, the team fell on Saturday 3-2 to Walsh Jesuit and Sunday to Amherst Steele 6-4, they will begin the regular season on Thursday with the home opener against Miami.

Congratulations to the academic team for winning their division and finishing 3rd out of 36 teams overall at the Little Miami Academic tournament.  Daryl Zazycki carried the trophy out of the building, as Michelle Miao was exhausted from having to carry the team all day.  Tesh Bali and Kai Brown were also part of the team who will compete at the Rowdy Raider at Northmont High School on December 4th.

Congrats to Hannah Lippincott and Kiefer Bell who concluded their careers at the OHSAA state cross country meet on Saturday, Hannah Lippincott was 64th in the girls race in 19:17, and Kiefer Bell was third in the boys race in 15:16, breaking his own school record and securing his spot as the highest finisher at states in school history I talked with Kiefer earlier today, take a look.

Hannah will take a couple months off before hopefully doing some damage on the track this spring and Kiefer will head to Kenosha, Wisconsin in a couple of weeks to compete at the Eastbay Great Lakes regional over Thanksgiving with hopes of qualifying to the national championships in San Diego.

Also shoutout to former Talawanda runner Noah Clemens who placed second as a team with the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks at the state meet.

The fall sports season came to a close and the winter season opened up this weekend with 2 wins for the hockey team who defeated Springboro on Friday and Bishop Watterson on Saturday, congrats to Freshman Mason Kolb on his first high school win and Jack Spaulding who picked up his first 2 victories as head coach, the hockey team will head to Cleveland this weekend for 2 games with Walsh Jesuit and Amherst.

No home games for today.

Today is the final day to vote for Hannah Lippincott and Kiefer Bell for athlete of the week so make sure to do that, and also good luck to the both of them as they will head to Obetz tonight for the State cross country meet tomorrow afternoon, Hannah will race in the division 1 girls race at 3 and Kiefer will race with the division 1 boys at 4.

And as the fall season comes to a close tomorrow the winter season will begin this weekend as the hockey team will start their year with 2 road games against Springboro tonight and Bishop Watterson tomorrow.

Last week in Indianapolis our FFA chapter was successful, winners of the Reserve Grand Champion Horse Judging team are Cecilia Guenther, Olivia Demoret, Kayla Lightfield & Olivia Zaenkert. And accepting the national 3 star chapter award were Rachel Dsuban & Morgan Gillespie.
