Good morning Talawanda, today is Wednesday, February 16th, 2022.

Today is Make FCCLA Count, FCCLA students were asked to wear Red or FCCLA gear today!

Don’t forget about the food drive going on this week and next week! Top 3 first period classrooms will receive donuts from FCCLA and FFA!

Seniors – 

A reminder that scholarship applications for both the Talawanda Local and Oxford Community Foundation are due next Thursday, Feb 17.  There are hard copies of the scholarship books that can be picked up in the Guidance Office and you can also access the direct link from the school counseling website. You can request your transcript through Parchment. Transcripts do not need to be official so you can make as many copies as you need. Please see Mrs Roy in the Guidance Office with any questions.

Now for Part 2 of Kids Today: International Edition

Talawanda Baseball Tryouts will be Monday, February 21st to Thursday, February 24th. Ninth and Tenth Graders from 6-7:30PM and Eleventh and Twelfth graders 7:30-9PM. Sign up outside Coach Lykins’s room (413).

If you signed up to perform at the February 25th Coffee House—there will be an important meeting after school this THURSDAY—if you plan to perform at the Coffee House, you must attend this meeting in room 320.

The Spring Blood drive is Friday March 11th – forms are located in the office and outside room 611.  Pick a time when you sign up!  Anyone 16 years or older can donate, each donation saves 3 lives.

There will be an FCA meeting today at 2:20 in the Guidance Conference Room. Anyone is welcome to attend, and we hope you consider joining our chapter to help grow our community and impact our school.

The boys basketball team ended their regular season with a 57-45 road victory over Mount Healthy, the team was led by Luke Weinberg with 22 points in the winning effort, the boys finish their regular season with a 6-15 record, and will face Walnut Hills in the first round of playoffs on Friday at 7:30, the game will be played at Fairfield High School.

The boys bowling team knocked off Mount Healthy last night in their regular season finale, the girls fell to the Owls, the boys finish with a record of 3-10 on the season and the girls finish 3-11, congrats to both bowling teams on successful years.

Home games: none, but make sure to come out to the PAC today after school for signing day, 6 senior athletes will be signing to continue athletic careers in college, festivities will begin at 2:15 this afternoon.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Tuesday, February 15th, 2022.

Today our second day of FCCLA week is Make Skills Count- members will be having a speaker about distracted driving in class today.  In 2019 there were 3,142 deaths due to distracted driving. As Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety a national FCCLA program emphasizes the importance of traffic safety. 

Just a reminder the non-perishable food drive is underway till the end of next week, top 3 first period classrooms here at THS will receive a donut party provided by FCCLA and FFA !  All items are staying local and being donated to TOPSS.

If you signed up to perform at the February 25th Coffee House–there will be an important meeting after school this THURSDAY–if you plan to perform at the Coffee House, you must attend this meeting. Slow sports day, there were no THS events yesterday, however a couple are coming up tonight, the bowling teams will close out their regular seasons in a conference finale with Mount Healthy at 4 at Oxford Lanes, also good luck to the boys basketball team who will also battle the Owls, the boys will hit the road for a 7:30 varsity tip tonight.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, February 14th, 2022.

This week is National FCCLA Week!  Today is member appreciation day.  Here at THS we have 201 students who are FCCLA members and have taken an FCS class this year!   We appreciate all that you do!  Thanks for all the hard work in our school and community!  Nationally there are 155,000 members with over 8,000 statewide.

In honor of FCCLA and FFA Weeks, we will be holding a food drive of non-perishable food items from today until February 26th. Drop off your items in boxes located in the front offices of all the schools. At THS we will be awarding the top 3 first period classrooms with donuts!

The hockey team fell in Overtime on Saturday in the SWOHSHL tournament to Beavercreek with a 4-3 final, the team will begin the State Playoffs on Friday as they take on Gahanna Lincoln in the first round.

The boys basketball team went 1-1 on the weekend, falling to Ross 70-47 on Friday but rebounding with a 69-61 win over Eaton on Saturday, the team now has an overall record of 5-15 and will conclude their regular season tomorrow at Mount Healthy.

The girls basketball team’s season was ended this weekend in a 49-36 loss against Loveland, the Brave were led by Kylee Fears with 15 points and Taylor Farris with 12, the girls end a historic season with a 19-3 record, taking home their first solo conference championship since 2013-14.

Congratulations to the swim and dive team for qualifying 11 individuals to the district swim and dive meets that will take place this week at Miami.  For the boys, Julio Fuentes, Alex Carlson, Stephen Mullally, Noah Femiani, Zeke Groom, and Jonah Femiani all qualified, while for the girls Mercy Patterson, Maren Patterson, Kenna Mondello, Hannah Lippincott, and Ellie Killy all qualified.  The sectional meets this weekend were highlighted by Alex Carlson winning the 100 Backstroke and in the process breaking the school record in the event.  The school record had stood for 37 years and Alex beat it by nearly a full second.  Congratulations to Alex and all the swimmers and divers for a great weekend.

Mr. Zimmerman asks some questions of our AFS students in today’s edition of “Kids Today”

THS is starting a Game Design club that will have it’s first meeting on Wednesday, February 23rd in room 301.  If you are interested in a career in game design, want to know more about the program at Miami, or just want to make some games, please see Mr. Zimmerman with questions.  Our first meeting we will be playing a Smash Tournament, and talking about the rest of the year.

This upcoming Monday is Valentine’s Day and Talawanda Hope is asking you to show someone your appreciation! Visit their booth during lunch to write the name of someone who has made a difference in your life on their poster. Write a name and get some candy!

The hockey team moved on to the second round last night with an 11-0 rout of Elder, the team is now in the semi-finals set for a matchup with Beavercreek tomorrow.

Home games: the hockey team will continue hosting the SWOHSHL tournament with the semifinal tomorrow at 6:30, also good luck to the girls basketball team who will face Loveland tomorrow afternoon in first round playoff action, and additionally good luck to the swim and dive team who will begin their state tournament run at sections all this weekend.

Last night the wrestling team traveled to Ross to battle the Rams and Aiken Falcons.  The team fell to Ross but defeated the Falcons. Gavin Boner, Kaiden Woodall, Tanner Bown, Charles Richardson, Logan Crauder, Aden Richardson, Clayton Bennett, and John Nelson all won a match.  Tomorrow the team travels to Middletown for a tri with the Middies and Preble Shawnee.

The academic team swept Mt. Healthy last night by the scores of 85-23 and 95-36.  They were led by seniors Nathan Douglas, Zainab Khan, Michelle Miao and Daryl Zazycki.  The JV team won their match 86-34.  They were led by Ben Zazycki.  The team is back in action next week against Harrison to determine the SWOC championship.

Home games: the hockey team will open up SWOHSHL tournament action tonight against Elder, puck drop at Goggin is at 8:55 tonight.

The boys basketball team was defeated by Badin last night in Hamilton, 55-35 was the final, the boys of course were led by Jay Reynolds with 15 points. The Brave are now 4-14 overall and will head to Ross on Friday.

The girls basketball team cruised to a strong victory last night over the Cincinnati Trailblazers, the final in that one 77-57, the Brave were led by Kylee fears with a monster 38 points and Taylor Farris who broke the school record for assists in a game with 15, the girls are now done for their regular season and will play Loveland in the playoffs on Saturday.

Both bowling teams picked up big SWOC wins on senior night last night, the girls by a narrow 21 pins and the boys by nearly 200, congrats to both teams, they will close out their regular season next Tuesday at home against Mount Healthy.

Home games: pack the house for Academic Challenge senior day against Mount Healthy, action will begin at 4 this afternoon in the media center.

Congratulations to THS Mock Trial members for bringing home district awards. Outstanding Attorney Awards went to: Muhammed Khan, Catherine Moul, and Julia Peter. Outstanding Witness Awards went to: Eliot Berberich (who won two witness awards), Katherine Bolenbaugh, and William Salzarulo. Both teams will compete at regionals on Feb. 18th.  Wish them luck!

Setting Stone will not meet today. Please plan on meeting next Monday, February 14th, to discuss important details related to the upcoming Coffee House.

Project Green will meet in Mrs. Ruther’s room (224) after school today. All are welcome.

Welcome back from your long weekend THS, lets hop into the scores since Thursday.

Starting with the boys basketball team who restructured their schedule this weekend, moving their game with Northwest to Saturday and cancelling their game against Reading, the team lost to Northwest 56-44 on Saturday, the boys are now 4-13 this season and 1-7 in the SWOC, they will head to Badin tomorrow, additionally their playoff matchup has been determined, they will face #3 Walnut Hills at Fairfield High School next Friday night.

The girls basketball team closed out their regular season with a 54-20 win over Ross on senior night, the girls close out their regular season as SWOC champs with an 18-2 overall record, they will open up state playoff action on Saturday in the first round against Loveland, the game will be a 12:30 start at Lakota East High School.

The hockey team went 2-1 on the weekend, with a loss against Alter on Friday and wins over Elder and Troy on Saturday and Sunday, the team’s regular season has come to an end, but they will host the SWOHSHL tournament this year with a first round game set for Thursday night.

The boys basketball team dropped a non-conference game with Preble Shawnee last night, 64-46 was the final, scoring leaders for the Brave were Jay Reynolds with 12 and Bryce James with 10, the boys are now 4-12 on the season and will kick off their weekend at Northwest on Friday.

Home games: the girls basketball team hosts senior night against Ross, JV at 6, Varsity at 7:30, it’s a blue out so make sure to pack the gym tonight as all students will get in free, additionally I’ll have the call alongside Caleb Bogseth here on BraveTV tonight.

The girls basketball team picked up a road win over McNick last night in their last non-conference matchup of the year, 50-44 was the final, Kylee Fears was the leading scorer for the Brave with 24 points, followed by Taylor Farris with 10, the girls will close out their regular season with their Eva Motta night game tomorrow against Ross, additionally, their playoff matchup has been determined, they will play Loveland on Saturday, February 12th at 12:30 pm at Princeton High School in the first round of district 2 Cincinnati tournament.

The boys and girls bowling teams both fell to Harrison last night at Oxford Lanes, both teams are now 1-7 in SWOC play and will have Edgewood next Tuesday.

Home games: the boys basketball team will host Preble Shawnee, Freshman at 4:30, JV at 6, and Varsity at 7:30, we were planning on carrying that game tonight, unfortunately, we’re short staffed, so we’ll only carry the Hudl stream on our YouTube channel tonight.
