Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, March 7th, 2022.

The spring blood drive is Friday! If you would like to donate blood please sign up, the last day to sign up is Thursday!  Everyone that is 16 years old that is donating has to have a form filled out even if you donated in December.  Forms are located in the office and at the front table during lunch, you may also turn in forms during your lunch and pick a time to donate.

Kiwanis Key Club will be selling cookies this week for the Kiwanis Scholarship Fundraiser. Head to the Key Club table at lunch to order and pay for your cookies this week on Wednesday and Thursday. The Pi Day themed cookies are $2 each, and will be distributed next Monday on Pi Day!

On Friday 8 members of the hockey team participated in the SWOHSHL All Star Game, the white team defeated the red team 3-2 with 4 of the 5 goals scored by Talawanda players, that wraps up the season for 7 of the guys, but best of luck to Andrew Shrider who will play in the State All Star Game this Saturday.

The baseball team kicked off their season over the weekend with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, the day was highlighted by Max Mesler and Parker Geshan hitting 2 triples each, the baseball team will begin their regular season a week from Wednesday at home against Taylor.

Additionally the wrestling team competed at Districts at Fairmont this past weekend, stay tuned for results, we’ll have more on that tomorrow.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Friday, March 4th, 2022.

Last call to submit a picture of your pet to Talawanda Hope’s upcoming pet tournament! Submissions will only be accepted through this Monday, and then the rounds of voting will begin. Check your English class’s Google Classroom for the submission form. Please make sure the picture is of good quality and your pet can be clearly seen.

Today is the last day to submit senior pictures to the yearbook.  You can use the QR codes posted around the school, use the link that was sent in the eNews, or email yearbook@talawanda.org.  If you can’t get your picture to yearbook today, please contact Mr. Zimmerman.  Please make sure the picture you submit is greater than 1 mega byte and follows the student code of conduct.

JUNIORS who are interested in planning the 2022 PROM should pick up an application outside room 319, Ms Mann’s room. We will be meeting next week to get started! The 2022 PROM is May 7 at the Shriver Center.

Congrats to 8 members of the hockey team who were selected to the all conference teams this year, Paker Geshan and Andrew Shrider were first team, Zach Goetz, James Anzano, Daniel Emenaker and Jack McKinley were second team, and Jack Sikora and I were honorable mention.

Also congrats to members of the Ac Chal team who were all conference selections, Daryl Zazycki was first team, Michelle Miao was second team, Ellie Radlinski was honorable mention and Nathan Douglas won the sportsmanship award.

Home games this weekend: the hockey team will host the SWOHSHL All Star Game tonight at Goggin with 8 team members participating, action will begin at 6:50, also make sure to come out tomorrow to the baseball team’s intrasquad scrimmage, that will be at 1 tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone who wants to try out for the Show Choir should come to the Choir Room today at 6:00 pm, wearing athletic clothing that allows them to move freely.  Everyone bring a writing utensil and Mr. Pearson will handle the rest.

The Academic Challenge team took on the SWOC tournament last night, the team went 4-1 on the day and finished their season with a match record of 10-3.

Also here at Channel 85 we will be hosting a bracket challenge tournament just like last year, we’re still working out some details as the tournament gets closer, so stayed tuned for those, we’ll have an official announcement with more information out next week.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Tuesday, March 1st, 2022.

The lost and found in the front office of the high School is overflowing with various items from the winter. THS students have until Friday the 4th to claim lost belongings before we donate them to the Good Will.  Items of interest in the lost and found are sunglasses, water bottles, bags, coats, and various clothing items.  If you have misplaced an item or feel one of the items could be yours, please stop in the front office to claim your item before Friday, March 4th at 3:00pm.

There will be an FCA meeting today at 2:20 in the Guidance Conference Room. Anyone is welcome to attend, and we hope you consider joining our chapter to help grow our community and impact our school. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jacob Farmer, Harrison Cradduck, or Dean Cradduck.

Now for another edition of Kids Today

Auditions for the next year’s THS Choirs are happening this week.  Students who would like to audition for the Chamber Singers or Women’s Ensemble can come to the Choir Room (room 608) on Tuesday, March 1st or Wednesday March 2nd at 6:00 pm.  You don’t have to prepare any songs in advance, and you won’t have to sing alone.

Anyone who wants to try out for the Show Choir should come to the Choir Room on Thursday, March 3 at 6:00 pm, wearing athletic clothing that allows them to move freely.  Everyone bring a writing utensil and Mr. Pearson will handle the rest.  The THS Choirs are a great way to expand your high school experience without having to deal with Mr. MicWilliams, and it’ll be a class in your day that never gives homework!

The annual SWOHSHL All Star Game will take place this Friday at 6:50 at Goggin, 8 members of the hockey team will be participating in the event, so make sure to go out and support on Friday.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, February 28th, 2022.

This weekend, 3 Talawanda Wrestlers placed in the Sectional Tournament to qualify for districts.  Senior Logan Crauder placed 4th in the 165-pound weight class, Gavin Boner placed 3rd in the 106-pound weight class, and Sammy Dillon placed 2nd in the 144-pound weight class.  This weekend they will travel to Dayton to compete in the Southwest District Wrestling tournament.

Congrats to Junior Maren Patterson who on Saturday finished 12th at the OHSAA state swim meet in Canton, once again congrats to her and the entire swim team on another successful year.

Also congrats to Junior Henry Hoblitzell who finished 4th at the indoor state track meet in pole vault this weekend, he will begin his outdoor season in just about one month’s time.

The Setting Stone Coffee House is tonight! Tickets will be available for purchase during the day in room 320 for $3. They will be $5 at the event. Come out to see performances by Lucy Wang, Henry Harper, Vivian Prytherch, The Lopes, Jitta Band, and more! Everything starts tonight at 7:30 in the THS cafeteria. We hope to see you there!

Project Green is collecting bottle caps for a second grade science day activity. Now through March 1st you can donate bottle caps of any kind by placing them in the designated bin in the cafeteria. Any donation would be greatly appreciated!

The girls bowling team sent 4 individuals to Colerain yesterday for sectionals, the team’s season came to an end last night, leading the way for the girls was Zada Young who bowled a 393 series, congrats to the girls on a great season.

Today is the last day to vote for everyone up for athlete of the week, so make sure to go vote for Luke, Logan, Maren, and Andrew at Cincinnati.com

Good morning Talawanda, today is Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022.

The Setting Stone Coffee House is this Friday! The Coffee House is an evening event that features student musicians and artists in a low-key, concert-like environment. If you’ve never been to a Coffee House, come out this Friday to see what they are all about! Tickets go on sale tomorrow for $3–but, they go up to $5 at the door. We hope to see you there!

Butler Tech is offering a Welding and EMT program for seniors next school year. The course lasts the entire year and will be half day instruction. Accelerate your future by taking these new programs.

Now for Tiny Mic Jokes and Norah Green getting hyped for spring

This week is national FFA week, there are still canned food drives going on during your first period class. Make sure you stay tuned this week for lots of FFA facts and activities.  Todays Fact: There are over 700,000 members in the United States and it is the largest student group in America

You don’t need to be a farmer to be in FFA, you just need to be interested in community service, leadership, and the sciences.

Setting Stone will have a meeting today right after school to discuss this week’s Coffee House! If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, please be sure to attend!

The boys basketball team’s season came to a close this weekend with a loss against Walnut Hills in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, the team finished with a record of 6-16, congrats to the boys on a great year.

Additionally the hockey team’s season came to an end this weekend, on Friday the team defeated Gahanna Lincoln 1-0 in first round playoff action before falling 4-1 in the second round to St. Charles Prep.

Over the weekend, Talawanda hosted the SWOC wrestling tournament.  The team had 3 top 3 finishers.  Freshman Gavin Boner took home bronze in the 106-pound weight class.  Junior Sammy Dillon took home gold in the 144-pound weight class.  And senior Logan Crauder took home gold in the 165-pound weight class.  This weekend the team travels to Lakota East to compete in the Sectional Tournament on the road to state.

This weekend the swim and dive teams competed at the district championship meet looking to qualify some kids to the state meet.  They were successful in doing that as Maren Patterson finished 3rd in the district in the 100 Backstroke.  Her swim was good enough to seed her 13th overall in the state heading into the meet this weekend.  The state meet is held in Canton, Ohio.  Other highlights from the meet this weekend include the girls 200 Medley Relay team of Mercy Patterson, Maren Patterson, Kenna Mondello, and Hannah Lippincott breaking the school record in that event.  Additionally, for the boys Alex Carlson finished 15th in the 50 Freestyle and 13th in the 100 Backstroke.  As a team the girls finished 11th out of 49 teams and the boys finished 19th out of 45 teams.  Congrats to both teams on an excellent weekend of swimming.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Thursday, February 17th, 2022.

Happy Educators Day! Thank you to all our teachers/staff members here at THS!  We appreciate you! Thank you to our adviser Mrs. Gregory for everything that she does for the chapter! THS Staff join us in room 611 for dinner before conferences. We will also be having a Navy speaker in all FCS classes.

Seniors – 

A reminder that scholarship applications for both the Talawanda Local and Oxford Community Foundation are due next Thursday, February 24th.  There are hard copies of the scholarship books that can be picked up in the Guidance Office and you can also access the direct link from the school counseling website. You can request your transcript through Parchment. Transcripts do not need to be official so you can make as many copies as you need. Please see Mrs Roy in the Guidance Office with any questions.

There is an informational meeting at the Oxford Library for the Great Miami Crew spring season today at 6.

The first meeting of Talawanda’s new Game Design club will be next Wednesday, February 23rd.  We will kick off the club with a Smash Brothers tournament in room 301, along with free pizza.  If you are interested come and check it out!  See Mr. Zimmerman or Jackson Kuhn with any questions.

Parker and the boys attempt to go through a basketball obstacle course as apart of their NBA training.

Talawanda Baseball Tryouts will be Monday, February 21st to Thursday, February 24th. Ninth and Tenth Graders from 6-7:30PM and Eleventh and Twelfth graders 7:30-9PM. Sign up outside Coach Lykins’s room (413).

If you signed up to perform at the February 25th Coffee House—there will be an important meeting after school today—if you plan to perform at the Coffee House, you must attend this meeting in room 320.

Congrats to all 6 athletes who signed last night, Deondre Bothast-Revalee signed to play football at Centre College, Abigail Fessel will play soccer at Anderson, Kaylee Burgess will play volleyball at Miami-Hamilton, and a trio of cross country and track athletes rounded out the ceremony, Logan Murray will run for Ohio Northern, Hannah Lippincott will represent Miami University and Kiefer Bell will head to Purdue.

Congratulations to Julio Fuentes who placed 18th two nights ago at the district diving meet.  This is quite an accomplishment for Julio as prior to this season Julio had never been on a diving board before.  The district swim meets will take place this Saturday where Talawanda will be looking to qualify some relays and individuals to the state meet next week in Canton.  And please make sure you go to cincinnati.com/sports/ and then navigate to the high school sports page so that you can vote for Alex Carlson for the Division 1 Swimmer of the Week.

The academic challenge team suffered their first 2 losses of the year in their final regular season matches with Harrison, the team finished with a record of 6-2 on the season and will have a couple weeks off before heading to Harrison once again for the SWOC tournament.

Lots of playoff action over this long weekend, good luck to the Swim team at districts, good luck to wrestling at the SWOC championship, and best of luck to the basketball and hockey teams who will have first round playoff games, the hockey team will face Gahanna Lincoln tomorrow night and the basketball team will face Walnut Hills on Saturday.
