Good morning Talawanda today is Wednesday, September 14th, 2022.

Class war update – The Seniors maintain their lead after winning twin day.  The Freshman keep their spot in 2nd place, but the Sophomores, after a terrible showing on Monday, have overtaken the Juniors to leave them in last place. That’s right Talawanda, the Juniors are currently in LAST PLACE with 3 points.  Tomorrow is Jersey Day, and Friday is Class Color day with Seniors in Black, Juniors in White, Sophomores in Blue, and Freshmen in Red.

There are Penny War jars at lunch for each class.  Pennies are positive points, and all other money is negative.  The class with the highest point total at the end of the week will be declared the winner and get points towards the Class War.  Not a lot to report, PLEASE make sure you bring in your spare change and participate for charity!
Homecoming tickets will be on sale until Friday night through the HomeTown Ticketing App. No tickets will be sold at the door, so be sure to get your tickets before Friday night!
If you plan to bring an outside guest, you must return the permission slips to Mrs. Gingerich in the main office to receive a guest ticket code. Last chance to turn in permission slips is Friday! Again, these permission slips must be turned in to receive a guest code.
The Drama club will be performing their Fall Varsity Show October 7th and 8th. Auditions will be held today in the PAC. Volleyball traveled to Mt Healthy last night for a SWOC match taking their 3rd sweep in a row and 7th win overall, the ladies will be playing their third game in a row tonight at Northwest.

Boys soccer completed the Tuesday night beating of the Mt Healthy Owls defeating them 5-1, Logan Kent continued his dominance adding 2 more goals while Ian Greene, Ben Brown, and JD Riendeau all collected their first goals of the season. The win against the Owls gives the team their 3rd win in the SWOC, the team stands in 2nd, just behind Ross.

The tennis team dropped their 5th straight match 4-1 , the team gets a chance to bounce back at home tonight when they take on Kings.

Two home games today and that’s the Girls Tennis team taking on Kings at 4pm and Girls Golf who is hosting Harrison at the Country Club, on the road is Field Hockey who will battle Fairmont at 7

That’s all our sports for today but Brayden Shiflett says he’s the best Rock Paper Scissors player in the school, in this video he puts that claim to the test.

Volleyball crushed Franklin last night in 3 sets winning their 4th game in a row, the team is right back in action tonight as they will head to Mt. Healthy for a conference match on the road.

Boys soccer took out Northwest 3-2 improving their SWOC record to 2-1, Logan Kent had all three goals to continue his dominant campaign, Logan has 10 of the teams 11 goals on the season.  The boys will be hosting Mt. Healthy looking to win their 3rd straight conference match tonight at 7.

Also taking on Northwest last night was the Girls Soccer team who shutout the Knights 4-0. Kaydence Morris, Mckenzie Hanson, and Kelcey Carver with the goals for the Lady Brave who will have a week off before their next match against Ross.

Boys golf took care of Colerain last night on the road outshooting them by over 20 strokes, the boys captured their 17th victory of the season and will have their next match Thursday.

One home game for today, boys soccer is hosting Mt. Healthy at 7, while on the road Girls tennis heads to Badin looking to snap a 4 game losing streak and the Volleyball team will play a conference match at Mt. Healthy that starting at 7.

Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, September 12th, 2022.

This week is Spirit Week at Talawanda, and CLASS WARS are back!  Each day Seniors through Freshman will be competing for points by dressing up, donating during lunch for penny wars, and in the Class relays during the pep rally on Friday.  Will the seniors continue the winning streak?  OR will the Freshman finally pull off the upset?  English teachers will be keeping the tally, so make sure you dress up next week to show your spirit!  Tomorrow is Twin day, Wednesday is Pajama Day, Thursday is Jersey Day, and Friday is Class Color day with Seniors in Black, Juniors in White, Sophomores in Blue, and Freshmen in Red.  Looking good in those Minon outfits today Talawanda.

And now over to Zander Moore with Moore Sports

The football team was in action Friday taking on New Richmond, the final score being 49-27 in favor of the Lions. New Richmond ran a pass heavy game as their quarterback AJ Metzger threw for 5 touchdowns and 340 yards, on the opposite side Cale Leitch had over 200 yards with 3 total touchdowns. On the run game Da’Quawn Roberson had 16 rushing touches for a total of 126 yards on the ground and a TD. Concluding week 4’s recap is the only turnover created by the Brave, it was a nice interception by Freshman Meetch Morris-Williams, the first of his career.

The volleyball team traveled to Cincinnati on Saturday to face Princeton and handed them a nice sweep taking them out in 3 straight sets, that’s the teams third win in a row and they will be back in action tonight hosting Franklin.

Heading over to the soccer field, the boys took their fourth loss of the season as Badin shutout the Brave 9-0, while the girls shutout Hamilton 2-0, Kaydence Morris and Zada Young with the goals. Both teams will face Northwest tonight, the girls on the road and the boys here at home at 7 o’clock.

Cross Country traveled to Mason on Saturday for the Mason Invite, Lucia Rodbro is the only runner to place as she placed 15th with a 5k time of 19:53.

Lots of games today starting off with the ones at home, Volleyball hosts Franklin at 7:00, Boys Soccer plays Northwest at the same time, Girls Varsity Golf will be teeing off against the Boys JV team at 4:30. On the road will be girls soccer who plays Northwest at 7:00, Boys Golf heads to Colerain for a match at 4:30.

As the boys soccer team came out on top winning 5-1 over Edgewood

The girls volleyball team swept Edgewood last night. The varsity team won in five sets

The field hockey team lost to Summit Country Day by a score of 2-1

The boys golf team got second in the SWOC match yesterday

The girls golf team fell to Edgewood 245-250

And Girls varsity tennis team lost to Ross last night 5-0 but the JV team won last night 3-2

We have some action over the weekend.

As the football team heads to New Richmond tonight the game starts at 7 and the theme is a blackout

Volleyball will play at Princeton on Saturday at noon .

The cross country team will have a meet at mason on Saturday

The girls soccer team will play at Hamilton at 7 pm on Saturday

The final game this weekend is the boys soccer game home against Badin at 5 pm on Saturday.

Any 10th or 11th grader that wants to take the PSAT on Wednesday October 12 needs to sign up in the guidance office with Miss Wise. The cost of the test is $20  and you will need to have your payment ready when you sign up. The deadline to sign up is Friday September 9th. Please see your counselor or Mr. Phelps (in room 519) if you have any questions.

Are you artistic? Do you love graphic design? If so, we are looking for artwork submissions for a design/logo for a monthly staff appreciation award. We would like you to include the phrase “BRAVE Award” somewhere in the design/logo, otherwise please be as creative as you want! If interested, please submit your design by September 14th either in person or via email to Mrs. Butz.

The boys golf team got second in the SWOC match yesterday and will look to bounce back tonight at Hueston woods for another SWOC match.

The girls tennis team fell to colrain last night but they will head to ross today to take on the rams.

We have some home games tonight. Field hockey goes against Summit Country Day at 6:30 pm.

Volleyball will play against edgewood. The jv b team will start their game at 4:30 pm and the rest will follow.

The boys soccer team will hit the road and head to Edgewood to take on the cougars.

Girls soccer tied with Edgewood last night with a score of 1-1.

The boys golf team beat Badin by a score of 162-188.

The girls tennis team also had a match yesterday, unfortunately they lost to Seven Hills.

Two home matches today, the girls tennis team takes on Colerain and the girls golf team plays at the Oxford Country Club.

And the boys golf team will go away for a SWOC match at Walden Ponds.

Don’t forget to vote Keeylee Goerss for girls golf player of the week.

Lots of action over labor day weekend as we start with last Thursday’s
games, Volleyball lost to Harrison in 5 sets dropping their first
conference matchup of the year, they will be playing 0Madison at home
tonight.

Another team dropping their first conference match was Boys soccer as
they were taken out by Harrison 6-0

Varsity Tennis lost to Northwest at home 3-2 pushing them to 1-1 in
conference play on the season, they will look to bounce back at 7
Hills tonight.

Finishing up Thursday’s matches is Boys Golf who just scraped out a
victory by one stroke over Fenwick 160-161, the boys will head to
Badin at 4:15 looking to take them out for the second time this year.

Moving to Friday the lone game was the football team who lost to the
Eaton Eagles 31-14, Payson Wilks with the only touchdown on the
offensive side of the ball for the Brave as DJ Morris-Williams tallied
a scoop and score for the defense. The team will be at New Richmond
Friday for a Blackout.

Over the weekend the Cross Country meet got cancelled so that brings
us to today’s home games where Girls soccer is hosting Edgewood at 7
o’clock while Volleyball battles Madison at 7 as well.

The tribe leaders have done a great job this year and the student
section has been better than ever, Anna Newlin has prepared this video
to encourage all of our student body to encourage everyone to join the fun.

Homecoming tickets will go on sale next Friday, September 9th through HomeTown Ticketing app.  If you plan to bring an outside guest, permission slips can be picked up Tuesday in the main office.  Permission slips must be turned in before you can purchase a guest ticket.

Today is Hawaiian day in honor of Ohio’s FCCLA’s state project this year We Help Two.  We Help Two, organizations not only raise funds for their cause but also impact their local community through their sock donation program to local homeless shelters.  FCCLA has partnered with We Help Two to support their Water for Africa program.  This incredible program helps to fund sustainable water projects throughout Africa.  These projects become a lifeline for the surrounding communities and reduce the risk of waterborne illnesses.  Thank you for participating all week Talawanda! 

Best Buddies will host their first meeting of the year on TODAY right after school in room 316.  We will have an ice cream party, so if you are interested in Best Buddies, join us on Thursday for ice cream and fun!

Girls Tennis continues their win streak by beating McAuley yesterday, 3-2.  Their record moves to 6-4 on the year, and will have a league matchup today against Northwest at 4ppm

Boys soccer is our lone home match today against Harrison, JV starting at 5pm and the Varsity takes the field at 7pm.  Show up for the game and wish JD a happy birthday.

Varsity golf will travel to Fenwick today to take on the Falcons, and Volleyball hits the road to beat up the Wildcats of Harrison – go get em sis.

Bogseth and the boys got such a large number of negative reviews of their Madden Ratings videos, that Mr. Zimmerman made them finally contribute something of value to the student body.  Here is Tyler, trying to change a flat tire.

Today is anything but a bcakpack day in honor of Ohio’s FCCLA’s state project this year We Help Two.  We Help Two, organizations not only raise funds for their cause but also impact their local community through their sock donation program to local homeless shelters.  FCCLA has partnered with We Help Two to support their Water for Africa program.  This incredible program helps to fund sustainable water projects throughout Africa.  These projects become a lifeline for the surrounding communities and reduce the risk of waterborne illnesses.  We can’t wait to see your hawaiian ideas tommorow.

Attention students! Voila, the world launguage club at talawanda high school will have its first meeting of the year after school on Thursday September 1st to greet new members and introduce our leadership team. The meeting will be in Mrs. Lefevers room (118) right after school. 

Please log on to your final forms and sign the student forms. A reminder was sent to your Talawanda email if you have not.

Any 10th or 11th grader that wants to take the PSAT on Wednesday October 12 needs to sign up in the guidance office with Miss Wise. The cost of the test is $20  and you will need to have your payment ready when you sign up. The deadline to sign up is September 9th. It’s time for Mock Trial.  Any students interested in joining our legacy should come to our first practice from 5:30 – 7:30 tonight Tuesday August 30th in room 417.  Use the math hallway doors.

The boys soccer team took out Hamilton 2-1 for their first win of the season, Logan Kent had both the Brave goals and the teams next match will be at home Thursday.

Boys golf was at Hueston Woods last night teeing off against Colerain and took the win 171 to 189 improving to 5-1 overall on the year. 

The volleyball team lost in 4 sets last night against Fairfield, they fall to 2-2 overall and will have their first conference match Thursday at Harrison.

Girls tennis got their winning streak snapped by Mariemont in their 4th loss of the season putting them back at the .500 mark, their next action will be tonight when they host Taylor.

Girls soccer heads to Harrison tonight for their first conference matchup of the year, start time will be 7 o’clock.

Two home games today both beginning at 4pm, Boys Golf are welcoming Hamilton to Hueston Woods, while the tennis team is looking to get back on Track against Taylor.
