Good morning Talawanda, today is Monday, January 31st, 2022.
There will be an FCA meeting this Wednesday, February 2nd, at 2:20 at Kofenya uptown. Anyone is welcome to attend, and we hope you consider joining our chapter to help grow our community and impact our school. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jacob Farmer, Harrison Cradduck, or Dean Cradduck.
Talawanda has some of the most diverse club and activity offerings of any school in the area, rivaling Mason and the Lakotas. This week we are challenging students who aren’t involved in a club or activity at THS to join a club that interests them! Each day we will highlight a few of the opportunities available. Today we will look at Cycling Club, FFA, Diversity, and Art Club.
As you are filling out your course request form, don’t forget Game Design! If you like video games or have interest in how they are made, consider taking Game Design I. You will learn some basic programming and make your own games in the class. See your counselor with any questions. We will try to keep highlighting other electives as scheduling season is starting.
Prospective baseball players: we will have a five-minute meeting in room 413 during tutorial on Tuesday, February 1st to discuss a community service opportunity and the wrap-up to our fundraiser. Attendance is expected.
The Winter Setting Stone Coffee House will be held on February 25th. Sign-ups begin today and will be open through February 11th. If you are interested in performing, sign up outside of Mr. Aerni’s room (320).
Now for whats the T and sports with Luke WP.
It was a big weekend for the Cincinnati Bengals and Talawanda Brave with tons of action over the past few days.
Starting with the girls basketball team who clinched the SWOC championship on Saturday with a 55-46 win over Mount Healthy, Kylee Fears led the Brave with a whopping 33 points in the win for the Brave, the girls have 2 final games on the regular season schedule this week starting with a matchup at McNick tonight.
The hockey team dropped 2 games this weekend, first to the Cincinnati Swords and then to Alter, the team will have a big weekend coming up in preparation for the conference tournament starting with a rematch against the Knights at home on Friday.
The wrestling team headed to the Eaton Invitational this weekend to compete, Gavin Boner placed 3rd at 106, and Sammy Dillon placed 5th at 150, the team will be back in action in Trenton on Wednesday in a tri with Edgewood and Miamisburg.
After 10 years the boys swim & dive team is STILL the only team to ever win a SWOC championship in swimming & diving. Saturday night the boys team pulled off an unbelievable win over Ross, eeking out a victory by a narrow 11 points. The boys were led by Noah Femiani who won the 200 Free and 100 Free and Alex Carlson who tied for first in the 50 Free and won the 100 Fly outright. Julio Fuentes also won the diving meet.
And congratulations to the girls swim & dive team for getting the SWOC title BACK after a one year hiatus. The girls dominated the meet, beating 2nd place Ross by over 100 points. The girls were led by Maren Patterson who was named SWOC Athlete of the Year after winning the 200 IM and 100 Free. Maren’s 100 Free time was good enough to break her own league record in the event. Other event winners for the girls were Kenna Mondello in the 50 Free, Eliza Sullivan in the diving event, and Mercy Patterson in the 100 Back.
The swim & dive teams will next be in action in two weeks when they head to their sectional swim & dive meets, where they’ll be looking to qualify a number of individuals and relays to the district swim meet.
Home games: the bowling teams will have their match with Harrison tonight, it was moved up from this Thursday, it will begin at 4 this afternoon.
And that’s our broadcast on this day, I’m Luke West Poley, thanks so much for watching, and have a great day.
