Good morning Talawanda, today is Friday, January 28th, 2022.
Speech is an elective for juniors and seniors. Mrs. Sammons has taught the class for 15 years and promises students will love the laid-back atmosphere. Plus, the class never has homework! Yes, you do give speeches, but the class makes it fun and you will get to answer silly questions at the start of each class and play Friday games! What more could a person want?
Senior John Nelson loved Speech so much, he took it twice and says, “Speech is chill. Everyone should take it!” It should also be noted that John Nelson earned an A in Speech. If he can do it, so can you!
Feel free to ask Mrs. Sammons if you have any questions! Will you be a sophomore next year and really want to take it? Talk to your counselor and have them email Mrs. Sammons- she will probably say yes (she always does!)
If you know Mr. Aerni, you know he loves music. What you might not know is that he has been writing songs since he was thirteen. That’s right, he’s been writing songs for the past thirty years! He’s also offering a new, one-time-only elective class on Songwriting next year!
The class is designed for everyone–meaning, you don’t have to ever have written a song before–in fact, you don’t need to know how to play an instrument! All you need is a love of music and an interest in being creative. In the class we will listen to a ton of music, talk about music we love, and do exercises designed to get you to write a song of your very own.
Sound interesting? Sign up when it comes time for you to schedule for next year.
Seniors – Both the Talawanda and the Oxford Community Foundation Scholarship books are now available in the Guidance Office. The link is also on the Counseling website and has been sent to your student emails also.
Please read the directions carefully as some requirements differ between the scholarship books. Both require your transcript, these do not need to be official. You will be given one copy and you can make as many copies as you want. You can request your transcript through Parchment.
All applications are due Thursday, February 24th to the guidance office. See Mrs Roy with any questions.
Are you interested in learning more about the earth’s systems and how they relate to global climate change? If so, join Ms. Morris next year to explore the science behind climate change, and how humans can impact this complex issue! Honors Environmental Science is a new science elective available to 11th and 12th graders.
Now for whats the T and sports with Luke WP.
Zander Moore on the call last night. It was a special evening for the girls basketball team who defeated Badin in a nailbiter, 49-48, the game was highlighted by junior Kylee Fears becoming just the 6th player in Talawanda history to surpass the 1,000 point mark, the game came down to the wire before Taylor Farris clinched the game with a free throw to give the Brave the lead with just under 2 seconds left on the clock, congrats to the girls on a great win, they are now 15-2 on the year and will head to Mount Healthy for their penultimate SWOC game tomorrow afternoon.
Both bowling teams fell to Ross yesterday afternoon in conference action at Oxford Lanes, shoutout to my brother Owen West Poley who bowled a career high 215 game last night, the teams will be back in action next Thursday as they host Harrison.
Home games: the boys basketball team will host Franklin County tomorrow beginning at 7:30, also at 8 the hockey team will battle the Cincinnati Swords, also good luck to the swim and dive teams who will play host to the SWOC championship meet tomorrow beginning at 5:30.
And that’s our broadcast on this day, I’m Luke West Poley, thanks so much for watching, and have a great weekend.
