Good morning, Talawanda! Today is Monday September 10th, 2018
Please congradulate our 2018 Homecoming court!  These students will be representing their graduating classes at our annual Homecoming parade, game and dance.  Freshmen are May Eynon and Doug Williams.  Sophomores are Lilly Persinger and Graig James.  Juniors are Corrynn Decker and Caleb Allen.  Seniors are Rory Adryan, Rori Lykins, Livi Mullenix, Max Farrell, Quinn Flaspohler, and Patty G.

The September FFA meeting will be this Wednesday in the PAC from 1:45-2:15.  Refreshments will be there afterwards in the shop. Go aggies!

Are you interested in joining the debate team?  Come to the after school meeting on Thursday, September 12, from 2:30-4:30.

Anyone interested in learning more about the club, “Girls Who Code,” an organization that promotes computer programming and coding skills, please see Miss Klovekorn in room 220 or Mrs. Caraballo in room 218.  No experience necessary!

Setting Stone will meet today after school in Mr. Aerni’s room.  We will discuss the Spring’s New York trip, Setting Stone submissions, November’s Coffee House, and a few other details.  See you this afternoon!

Time is running out to get your delicious Otis Spunkmeyer cookies, pizzas, and cheesecakes from the THS Choir program.  Our annual fundraiser ends tomorrow.  See any choir member or Mr. Pearson if you are interested in great food and supporting great music.  Choir members:  make a great final push so we can maximize our profits for new music equipment, and experiences.

The THS Homecoming: DANCE! by the Ocean is almost here.  Homecoming tickets will be on sale during all lunch periods starting Friday, September 14 through Friday, September 21.  Tickets are $15 per person.  The homecoming dance is Saturday, September 22 from 8pm to 11pm in the Talawanda High School Gymnasium.  Note, if a student plans to bring an outside guest, tickets and permission slips must be purchased in the main office.

Homecoming dance Guest Permission Forms are in the main office. It needs to be completed before tickets can be purchased.  You need to buy tickets in the main office before next Friday at noon.

Talawanda’s new Larping club is a Medieval combat and role playing group.  This group is all about small team deathmatch battles and capture the flag battles.  Once they start getting more players they will start doing large scale battles.  They use foam swords that are checked for safety before every battle.  1 on 1 battles, or ‘sparring’, will happen too.  If you would like to join please email daniel.ross@talawanda.org.  If you would like to see what this club is about they hold meetings on Wednesdays until 3:30.  To be able to play and fight they require a signed liability waiver.  They gather in Mrs. Bakers room, 410.

Any 9-12th grader who has completed an act of volunteerism and would like to be considered for a thousand dollar cash prize is encouraged to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  The application can be found at spirit.prudential.com and is due by November 6th.  Talawanda will have one local winner who will be considered for the state award, and a trip for themselves and a parent or guardian to Washington, DC this spring for a 4-day recognition ceremony.

Seniors interested in attending the College Essay Workshop today, remember that Miami and UC admission reps will work 1 on 1 with you on your draft or final essays.  They are scheduled to be here from 2:30 – 4.  This will help you get individual direct feedback from admission professionals.  You do not need to stay the entire time.

Attention current NHS seniors: We will meet in Ms. Alfonsi’s room right after school Thursday, September 13th.  Be there!

Come to the first Model UN meeting right after school on Thursday September 20th in room 118, Ms. Lefevers room.  This will be an informational meeting so all are encouraged to come.  If you have any questions or can’t come please contact club president Jenny Lee.

And now for world news and Patty G with sports.

Well, I said on Friday afternoon the Football team was going to start 2 and 1, and sure enough they did with a 32-20 win over Eaton on Friday night.  Tyler Teeters picked up his first win going 5 for 14 and passing for 64 yards.  He also rushed for 139. Terrell Wills picked up 185 on the ground along with 2 touchdowns, and Luke Richardson  had an 86 yard punt return touchdown. The Braves have their first 2 and 1 start since 2014. They will travel to New Richmond this week.

This past weekend the Braves Cross Country team had an outstanding performance in the rain. The Girls team placed 3rd out of 16 teams at the Troy Invitational. Earning a spot in the top 20 was Maddy Iden in 4th, Libby Farmer in 9th, and Hannah Lippincott in 11th. Also setting new personal records for the season were Abby Bahlau, Alyssa Chaney, Madison Fantelli, Mary Kate Huddleston, Eva Motta, and Asya Walsh. Also with an outstanding day and taking a full 4 minutes off her previous best time was freshman Dominique Withrow-Ibrahim.

The boys team placed 7th out of 24 teams. Earning top 20 spots were David Kraushar in 11th and Kiefer Bell in 12th. Also setting new personal records were Zeke Groom, Tyler Sharp, and Kye Tomoyasu. The team’s next meet is Tuesday at Valley View.

The girls volleyball team fell in straight sets Saturday to Graham. Their record falls to 2 and 5 overall, 1 and 2 in the conference.

Home games for today: Girls Varsity golf takes on Colerain at 4, Girls Varsity Tennis takes on Eaton at 4, Girls JV Tennis hosts Eaton at 4. And girls volleyball has Fairfield in the Gym. Freshman at 4:30, JV at 5:45, and Varsity at 7. The Varsity game will be live streamed. Grady Holmes and I will have the call on YouTube at 7.
