Good morning, Talawanda! Today is Thursday September 6th, 2018

Any 9-12th grader who has completed an act of volunteerism and would like to be considered for a thousand dollar cash prize is encouraged to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  The application can be found at spirit.prudential.com and is due by November 6th.  Talawanda will have one local winner who will be considered for the state award, and a trip for themselves and a parent or guardian to Washington, DC this spring for a 4-day recognition ceremony.

Best Buddies or anyone who would like to still join:  Please remember to submit your online application ASAP.  If you need directions for signing up, please see Mrs. Sammons in Room 316.  Our match party is this coming Tuesday, September 11.  We will have pizza and snacks! Also, reminder to all members to check your email for a survey about our upcoming field trip.  Mrs. Sammons needs to know if you want to go by Friday!

The THS Choir program has started its annual Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser.  See any choir student or Mr. Pearson for the opportunity to support our vocal music groups and get some great food.  There will be cookies, pretzels, pizzas, churros, cheesecakes, and soups!  The sale runs from now until Tuesday, September 11.  Get your orders in today!

Starting today there will be an open baseball field, every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:45.  You should try and attend if you are not playing a fall sport.  All grades are welcome.

Seniors interested in attending the College Essay Workshop on Monday, September 10th, remember that Miami and UC admission reps will work 1 on 1 with you on your draft or final essays.  They are scheduled to be here from 2:30 – 4.  This will help you get individual direct feedback from admission professionals.  You do not need to stay the entire time.

Drop off all books for the book drive in the in the Main Office in the designated boxes!  The Book Drive will run until September 7th!  All of the books will go to our local Children’s Hospitals.

The drama club will be having an informational meeting after school today in the THS Performing Arts Center.  If you cannot make it to the meeting and still want to audition, come after school on September 11.  If you have any other questions, please see Ms. Hudson or Mr. Steffen in room 317.

Birthdays for today: Alivia Lake turns 16 and Kaylyn Schofield turns 15.

And now for world news and Patty G with sports.

It was not a good day for Talawanda sports yesterday with the bad weather. The Braves boys golf team played 3 holes in the rain yesterday before the match against Fenwick was cancelled  due to rain. Josh Verst was the medalist after making his birdie putt on the 3rd hole.

And the girls field hockey team’s game against Oakwood was also not played to completion with lightning.

A reminder to boys basketball players, your pre-season meeting is today after school in the gym.

Home games for today:   Girls Varsity Tennis takes on Edgewood at 4 and Boys Varsity Soccer  has  Mt. Healthy at 7.

And that’s our broadcast on this Thursday. I’m Patrick Geshan. Thanks so much for watching, and we’ll see you tomorrow.
